51 on s10 radiator
Tried a couple of radiators on my 51 mounted on s10 and they all seem too tall. The height of this one is 26" and sure looks way too tall (hood is off). I need an aluminum one with trans cooler. Does anyone have a link or name of one that fits.
Seems to hit the steering box in the front. Thanks kevin |

I don't have the dimensions, but it fits like it was made for the truck. You can do a search and find the dimensions easily. |

Re: 51 on s10 radiator
They are about 21 tall by 19 wide, That's a good price. You can get an aluminum radiator for about the same or a little more, Not sure of the brand name but many here have got it so someone will chime in. You will have to cut the bottom off your radiator bracket and weld in a new bottom piece straight across.

Re: 51 on s10 radiator
So i got mine in and it had some issues. I had to cut off one side of the bracket as the width of the radiator (side tanks) made it so that it didnt fit. Wonder if i should have gotten a different rad but none that i saw in that size (21x19) had top and bottom tanks. So now there does not seem enough room for a fan on the engine side of the radiator. Can I put one on the other side? Also top of rad comes pretty high up so have to put hood on again to see if it closes.
anyone have pics of aluminum rads in their AD truck on a s10 frame? thanks |

Re: 51 on s10 radiator
Check my build starting at entry #516. I got my Rad from JEGS. 19x22 aluminum, Side tanks, available with trans cooler, (mine does not have that option). Been driving it since August, no problems. Cost about $150, I think.

Re: 51 on s10 radiator
Also I was able to fit a quite large electric cooling fan(from a Mercedes-Benz) between motor and rad. I guess it depends on how far forward the motor is mounted. You can get a pusher fan and mount it in front of the radiator.

Re: 51 on s10 radiator
Here's the picture of my steering box and radiator support clearance. It's that tight, but fits like a dream!

Re: 51 on s10 radiator
I just used the 'stock' sized radiator and angled the bottom out away from the steering box 2". Worked great and no body even notices it.

Re: 51 on s10 radiator
My dad has a '52 Chev 1/2 ton on an S-10 frame and he has an aluminum (I believe it's a be-cool) in the stock size and it fits well. He's using a 454 as well, and the firewall is uncut. His body is chanelled as low as possible on the frame without cutting the floor (other than for the transmission tunnel). I think he might have put it on the front side of the rad support. On my '46 I angled the rad so it went in front of the steering box.
I know a couple guys that run the mustang radiators because they fit, but they're too small for proper cooling on a hot day. |
