Rustproofing help!
What are the best ways to rustproof the underside of an old truck? I can remove the loose rust ,but won't be sandblasting. Paint doesn't seem to last long enough. I use oil on other old equipment, but it's messy. Who might have some thoughts on this?? Must be a way to get some lasting protection, and it doesn't help that i live on the coast. Erik

Re: Rustproofing help!
Application of some oil-based spray is likely the best, but as you noted can be messy. There are some sprays like waxoyl that are supposedly very effective and used in the UK. You can find recipes using wax toilet rings and chainsaw oil. I have yet to try any of them.

Re: Rustproofing help!
how about rubberized undercoating? available in large rattle cans or gallon jugs... sprayed with a shutz gun. Remove as much as you can...and spray. Helps keep the salt and rust back up here.

Re: Rustproofing help!
Thanks for the responses, I spent some time on you tube. Looks like oil, sprayed on with a spray gun is one option, the other is wax made from lanolin called fluid film, developed for the navy. Either way, getting the rust off first seems to be the key
