Re: Long bed Values Vs Short bed Value
Not sure if this will make any sense, but - maybe the reason swb's sell for more is simply because the seller charges more (to re-coop what they spent on it). Not that it's really worth any extra. Thus the comparison - swb cost more than lwb. A group of individuals charging and selling at a higher price. All about the people, and not really the actual worth of the truck.

Having said that.....my take on it is pretty simple.....They want more because they know they are more popular to modify. A LWB truck wont be modded at all or very little.............also...Supply and Demand. Why are all the nice trucks sold in the state of Washington...lots of nice trucks there because of the no rust issue I would guess......other states they are crushed and rust buckets...a guess again.. So my take is your going to pay anywhere from 2-5 extra for the SWB truck...I think if you have a cherry LWB you might not want to touch it...if you decide to........it will cost you 2-3 for the Mod..... Would all of you agree with that.......or am I still out in left field? |

It's the same reason a Chevelle SS brings more money than a non SS. Society as a whole has placed a higher value on vehicles that are an SS, short bed, fastback, Shelby, V8, a/c, etc.

Re: Long bed Values Vs Short bed Value
IDK, when I'm driving my truck - I have no real sense of how long or short the bed is. Is the cool factor that it looks cool to look at (or for others to look at)? from a distance, not while driving? Is that worth the higher cost? Like I guessed earlier, it's all about the people and their mindset. It's just an 'idea' that one is worth more than the other, when most likely the lwb was probably more expensive new than the swb. People see this (that the swb is more desired for various reasons) thus charges more (supply/demand). Based on materials alone, the lwb should be the more expensive due to more metal. Funny how things change (peoples opinions) over time - example: used to be dark skinned (tan) people were slaves (worked under the hot sun all day), now adays it means you spend time having fun in the sun.

Re: Long bed Values Vs Short bed Value
Mine does just fine. No issues going fast. Like I said, I can break the rear free at 20mph - so I'm not hurtin any. Cornering? I'm not taking corners at 50mph, so don't care.
