Cab mounts

I`m getting ready to do a body swap on my CC K30. All of the rubber mounts are junk, between 3 trucks I can salvage enough shells to do poly mounts. What are you guys running, stock rubber, most likely LMC kit, or poly mounts. I have a flatbed, so that isn`t an issue, just the cab/core support. Trying to do this on a budget for DD plow /work truck. LMC kit is like $220 complete w/bolts plus shipping. Poly is like $95 plus shipping, no shells, no bolts. Who is using poly, do you like them?

There is a lot of debate on rubber vs. poly. I prefer poly, since I know it is going to last longer than the rubber and offer less flex. We sell Prothane, and haven't heard anything bad about squeaking, etc..... plus the black color bushings have a hint of graphite in them which help against squeak, if any existed at all.

Let me know if we can help you with a set. The prothane doesn't come with shells or bolts, as you will use factory bolts if still in good shape. They are however, cheaper than $95, and I stock them in black.

I just bought polyurethane body mount bushings for my 74 standard cab from Summit. They were about $50. Less body flex than rubber. As for bolts you can reuse yours or just buy grade 8 bolts. I dont see spending $220 on a rubber kit. Way too much mark up on that kit.

i too just bought poly mounts for my 85 crew, $75. i'm replacing my hardware w/grade 8-cheap & better then almost 30yr bolts. i've heard more noise comes into the cab than rubber, but i'll take the longevity. i'm running an 8" lift, & all susp. bushings are poly, much tighter & responsive than rubber

The body mount kit does include the core support mounts as well. The bed bolts directly to the frame without any bushings, so nothing is needed there. We have a 10% off right now on Prothane that ends today, and can be ordered right off our site at this price.

Since poly doesn't flex as much, won't that cause more stress on the supports and mounts this leading to cracking?

I ended up buying the rubber LMC kit for my short bed. Haven't installed it yet but that is what I bought. What worried me about the poly kits was how much were they going to stiffen up the truck and also the possibility of squeeking. If I could have found someone locally that had the poly kit then I could have seen first hand. I always hate going out on a limb for something I know little about. I felt the rubber kits were a safe bet. JMO.

No, it won't cause the supports to crack, as they are very well mounted to the frame from the factory.

OEM style on my 87 lasted 25+ years, rides better then "Poly".

Why change? Do you think you will own your truck longer then 20 years?

Agreed. Been gathering up full set of GM rubber mounts. Truck is 30, has needed them for the past 5 or so years. Have about 500,000 miles on them, they're due.

And yes, I'll be keeping this truck.

I'm willing to bet you have needed them longer then you know. Like shocks they can have a slow decline. you the driver will not notice until completely worn.

I bought poly mounts. Energy suspension brand I believe. The ride is fine but they didn't come with any hardware

This was a problem as my 40 year old hardware was effed up! There are some metal bushing spacer thingies that I had to fabricate from pipe and big-ass washers.

There is more to the hardware than just bolts and washers, if you think yours will be heavily rusted then save the trouble and go for the LMC kit. I had a heck of a time
Finding the right sized pipe to weld to the washers.

so true. my cups & hardware were in good shape, the rubber even looked good, till i placed it beside the new mount (red prothane) & seen how much shorter it was from wearing out.
wasn't the ride that made me do mine, it was body lines out of whack.
have had poly in just over a yr now, noise-no difference, ride-no difference (no ride with 38.5's anyways), squeeks-none. truck does feel like it's screwed to the frame if that means anything..

I feel you there I need to hardware for the core support and don"t have a clue besides salvage to get just those.

I think I still have some of the pipe laying around. I'll see if I can find it and ill pull measurements



I think it was 5/8 id and 3/4 od which pressed nice and tight into a 3/4 washer and then I tacked it in place. It ended up having very similar dimensions to the oem hardware
