Re: Everyone should watch this video!!!

Wow that brought back some fond memories.
I grew up down the road from a place called Sears Point (now Infineon Raceway).
They used to have an all comers drag race nights and a few of the folks on our road would get together and watch some of the older boys. Back when you could buy a hemicuda for a hundred bucks (well you get my point). Early 70' to early 80's. My dad used to do vintage races there in the porsche against bug eye sprites, vettes, mustangs, etc...
Back when the only thing a guy bought from china was a ming dynasty vase. lol

I think you can (go from new to old), to some degree.
Here's a video someone made, using Movie Maker (comes installed with newer versions of Windows) to edit/add a washed out effect and flaws.

There's also an app for that... iphone. Neither actually reproduces the 8mm quality IMHO.
They add specs and stuff - but it's the capture/projection frame rate/materials used that makes 8mm unique.
Specs in your movie would mean your film is dirty ect... not really something desired.
The video posted in post #1 - was a dubbing of original clean 8mm film using an HD camcorder and techniques.
I don't think it would have ever played so smoothly in a projector, originally - so it did remove some originality.

Re: Everyone should watch this video!!!

I've got a copy of a May 1966 Car & Driver magazine. If you enlarge one of the crowd pictures big enough, my lil' 15yr. old face is identifiable. The picture was taken at the Sebring 12hr. race in Mar. that year. Always makes me sad because I'm standing there smiling looking at an accident involving a Ford GT 40 crash that killed a Canadian driver named Bob McLean. The car burned upside down for a long time.

This was in the first paragraph...

Roku requires a soundtrack, so a sweet, "long ago" background track was added.

Re: Everyone should watch this video!!!

Very cool stuff. I checked out some of his other videos. He has an interesting one during the Tet Offensive.

I remember my neighbors mom having one of these cameras and thinking it was the coolest thing to play the film backwards. It seemed magical at the time to see something thrown, go back into a hand. My family only had picture slides which we would occasionally have a big event and view on a cold winter night.

As for the garbage... We all (Well some of us) remember this.
It must have worked.

Very cool. I'm enjoying reading the comments . As for the garbage and the times, comparing to today - someone needs to get the message out to all the illegal aliens crossing the Arizona borders today.

Re: Everyone should watch this video!!!

Cool video, thanks for sharing. ^^ 70 Chevelle about 1:18 too. Maybe it was late 69 when the video was shot? Still, I'd love to be able to go to some of the vintage races they have at these tracks on occasion.

Re: Everyone should watch this video!!!

70's Camaro? It must have been new since this film was shot in 69. Was the Camaro you saw silver? If yes, my uncle had one just like it when I was little. He considered it the fastest car in high school Seems like anybody that was somebody with a nice ride attended this event. Awesome it got recorded and we are able to see it today.
