speed warning??

ive seen this listed as an option on a few of the members trucks on here. WHat exactly is the speed warning? how does it work, where is it located on the truck? Im assuming it warns the driver if they are exceding the speed limit, but how would this device recognize if you're driving on a 65mph hwy vs. 25mph through town? is ther a way to set it? seems like this isnt a popular option but not a rare one either. ive seen it more on the 67 68 trucks, however did see it on a member 71 truck. any info on this would be great

Re: speed warning??

Can't comment on pickup trucks but my '63 Grand Prix has a speed alert.

You set it yourself by rotating a knob under the dash. It moves a red needle: you get an audible alert (buzz) and a yellow light when exceeding that preset speed.

Re: speed warning??

My 68 GMC had it it has a little knob on the dash about the size of a valve core cover for a tire. It mounted on the left side of the dash under the headlamp switch and was hooked to a needle in the speedometer head that turned with the knob. When setting the desired speed by turning the knob the pointer would point[see how that works] to the numbers on the speedo say about the 60 MPH range and when and if you passed that it would trigger a relay and sound the buzzer under the dash, until the speed was reduced. I think this was a 67-68 thing and sometime late or mid year 69 the cruise control advent is why is stopped being much use. I think it could have been found all the way up to the C60 model. The one in my 68 was just a 3 gauge dash but I have added a tac/vac dash to it and had plans to have the speed warning changed over and put it another tac/ vac dash I have. Jim

Re: speed warning??

The speedo and the tin and a few other parts in the back make it different .

This is basically correct. Used from 67-69 and although i have heard of people seeing them in the C-40 and bigger trucks, i have never seen one. The speedo head and rear tin are unique to the speed warning. Could be had on a standard gauge cluster, (idiot light) a full gauge cluster or in a tach cluster (rare)

Here is a backside & front picture of a factory tach dash with speed warning speedo installed by me. The knob that sets the speed is wrong though. I liked it better here than in the regular spot. I also just got a seat buzzer and connector out of a late model Chevy to use with the speed warning.
With correct wiring and connection for the tach.
I added the clock also out of a late model Chevy truck.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I don't think 12 volts would do much though. If you could get it to hit harder it would be worth a video though!

I'm sorry - I'm not seeing the set knob. Where is it?

Mine is the size and shape of a Schrader valve (even has a cap on it that looks like a valve stem cap).

The front view picture doesn't show it. The backside shows it but it looks as U described. Hadn't ever paid that any attention. I get a new picture of it tonight.
I put it right under the head light switch hole.

Re: speed warning??

Ah! Now I see it (...I feel dumb) - on the forward face of the cluster bezel.

I was looking on the back side of the gage cluster itself. Mine is under the dash (mounted vertically), so that was throwing me off.

Trucks only went to 100MPH. That's where it stays unless I'm showing some one how it works.
