seen a Custom 65 crewcab

My wife and I seen a Custom 65 crewcab today in Derby Kansas.
I tried to snap a picture of it but could not due to traffic.
Searched the old internet and found it.
Not sure if their a member on here or not.

Both are sweet! I plan on a future restoration of one with a crew cab 4X4 and 9 foot stepside with a cummins and 36 inch tires! And some diesel stacks! lol!

Did you go with a 6bt in both? Also how was the fit in both anyone easier? Did you use original frames or another frame, Thanks for any info. Really thinking about doing one I have two cummins here

The 65 has a 4bt and 47rh dodge transmission on a 2000 chevy frame, the 67 has a 6bt and a allison 1000 6 speed on a 95 chevy frame.
if you don't use the intercooler you can put the 6bt in either with out cutting the firewall. I put the intercooler in the 67 and moved the firewall back 4". On a friend's 66 I extended the fenders 4" and kept the firewall stock. I did have to move the body back 4" this is on a 1 ton with a camper

Thanks so very much for the info. Which frame worked the best for you or did it really matter. I have a 2001 crew cab frame I've been saving for that project. I like the extending the fenders, how'd you like that option versus moving the firewall?? I would like to keep interior room if possible. Thanks Again Jeff

I forgot to ask, what kind of mileage are you seeing from them??

The 2001 frame should work, extending the fenders gives more room to work on the motor etc. You also need to extend the hood or the valance in frount of the windshield.
on mileage, the 6bt gets 20 around town and 22 plus in the highway
the 4bt is 23.5 in town and 24-25 on the road

I would use the 6bt inless you are worried about the weight, it would cost less and as you can see the mileage is close.

It's a 2500 frame and I'm gonna keep it a 2500. I have both the 47rh and the allison that came out of the duramax. Which combination do you like the best??

The 2500 frame is the best as far as 47rh or allison, the 47 rh would be cheaper and easier, on the allision has a lower reverse and first gear the od is higher on the 47rh unless you have a 6 speed. You can get the adaptor and stand alone controler from Howards Alllision conversions out of Slat Lake.
on the 47 rh you can throw away the computer and use a toggle switch to do the lockup and the overdrive, or you could use two RPM Window switchs to do the switching for you. These would read from the speed sender.
If you are going to haul a large trailer the Allison would be best.

Love the crew cabs......by the way....a 6BT Cummins is a 5.9 12 valve? Or what is it? I am also wonder what a 5.9 12 valve Cummins is classified as.

The 5.9 is a 180 hp before you turn it up, the 5.9 12v started out with a ve rotary pump (160 hp) 88 to 93 these can also be turned up

turning up is by changing the fuel pin (ve pump) or the fuel plate (p7100 inline pump
Cummins makes the B series in 3,4, and 6 cylinder models the 6bt has a turbo, the 6bta has an after cooler (some times called an intercooler)
On the isb 24 valve motor the parts on the block will mostly inter-change with the 12 valve motor.
