Re: Comments from your better half!!!!

I think she is glad I have it, and bought it.. however, when I mention adding another one - like a '56 or 60-66 to the collection I get "the look"..

Re: Comments from your better half!!!!

My partner grew up on a farm with trucks. We are two peas in a pod. She taught me how to sew and I taught her how to TIG.

I wake up in the morning and she has my Egad ready, Craigslist ads pulled up by year and fire in the stove. All by 5am. Turns wrenches and takes care of the baby and works too. She loves these trucks but every time we pass one dropped she comments "what a waste...why didn't they buy an el camino for that?" or one lifted on 40's she asks "what's he overcompensating for?".

Now if I could just get her to run the log splitter...

My wife told me after I finished (it's never finished) and I spent more time inside, it was like I had returned from war.

Told her it was yard art for now and imagine what it would look like after restoration and told her i still paid less for it then the 12 purses she owns. she must not have much of an imagination because she just said well keep it behind the shop so nobody sees it from the road.

Re: Comments from your better half!!!!

my wife is great because she supports my hobbies.
but, that being said her first 2 comments when i brought it home was " it doesnt have shoulder belts?, that's dangerous" , so she rarely rides in it with me and only around town. and " it's sooo loud" yes, it is a small block, with magnaflows and headers, but it isnt nearly as loud as my neighbors Harley next to me.
she's not a car/truck person, but she understands it's my stress relief,
and she's the greatest.

My wife said she was changing her name to Chevrolet that way I would spend just as much on her as the trucks.

Re: Comments from your better half!!!!

When I first started dating my girlfriend, she really didn't have much interest in old American muscle, though she did love my truck and always wanted to go for a ride in it. Fast forward a few months and she is pointing out every classic ride on the road, naming quite a few of them and even knowing their decade at minimum. Plus she always wants to lend a hand on whatever I'm working on. No complaints

My wife loves our truck. Of course, it's been in her family since '73. We inherited it when her dad died. She loves driving it. Now, if she only liked my '68 Skylark...

Re: Comments from your better half!!!!

I saw a truck off the side of the road today someones property with a house and building and as locked gate with a Private Property sign, my wife could see my excitement and the tone in my voice.

First think out of her lips was "Do you want me to turn around??" I said "up to you"..

She made a U turn drove back, turned back around again as it was a busy road, then pulled off the road so i could get a good look at it, Unfortunately no for sale sign on it, but to me it looked like a great project.. I got to figure out how to get a hold of them and ask if its for sale..

Re: Comments from your better half!!!!

She says nothing. I buy my wife a new car every 3 years (going on 23 years...6 new cars). It is an infinitely small price to pay to keep her mouth shut about the cars/trucks I buy and to leave me alone when I'm out in the barn working on an old truck.

Re: Comments from your better half!!!!

My wife wasn't into classics before we started dating. I've had my GTO long before we met, and it was nearly "finished" when we started dating, but she likes going for rides in it. I wouldn't let her drive it for a long time, but she really liked it when she finally got to drive it. She gets a big smile on her face when I toss her the keys now. I'd say she likes classics now.

She wasn't too happy with the idea of buying the truck (she's definitely more of a saver than a spender, quite the opposite of me... ) but said I should get it when we went to look at it in person. I still get the occasional, "you spent how much on that??? You could have used the money to fix/buy/replace ______ for the house." She still asks to drive it once in a while though. I think she likes the truck, just not how much it costs.

Re: Comments from your better half!!!!

I've been with my girlfriend for about a year and a half now and when we first started dating I had a 2008 Trailblazer SS with cam, headers, lowered, etc. It was pretty fun to drive and she never really complained about it.

The one night we were going on a date and I decided to break out my 1989 Turbo Trans Am which was my first car. We had been dating for probably 6 months and she knew of the car but had never seen it. I think that was the last time I probably drove it and she constantly asks "when are you going to get the Trans Am out again?". The issue is it needs a small overhaul to really get it running right, so I'll get to it eventually.

Then I bought a 2010 Cadillac CTS-V and she LOVED it, mainly because it's red and has a sunroof. She also liked that it was a manual so she could learn how to drive stick (she's driven it some but not on the main roads). Then the first round of mods came and it went from 480 rwhp to 580 rwhp, she didn't seem too impressed with it and didn't really understand. Then the 2nd and most recent round of mods with a cam, ported heads, etc came and she was shocked with the 680rwhp blowing the tires off at 50 mph, but she's not sure about the new louder lumpy idle.

Finally, I bought the 72 C10 and she LOVES it. I think she actually might like it more than the V. The first thing she said after I bought it was "you can do whatever you want but you can't change the seats" because it has the green highlander plaid seats. Now the tired old 350 is struggling and it's waiting for a 5.3 swap and then it'll be my DD.

Overall, she doesn't really get why I spend so much time with the cars and I think she gets jealous since we rarely get to spend time together but she understands it's my hobby and keeps me sane. She's said she wants her own classic and likes the 66 Mustangs, but I think I just need to get more than one of my cars running right so she can drive one and I can drive the other to events together. She's trying to learn about cars/trucks and hopefully she'll get more interest with time.

My wife hasn't said much about it, but I did get the ok to install a 2-post lift in my garage to make it easier to work on it.
