Suspension

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a solid suspension that will ride and handle very nicely. My truck has about 450hp. I know there are many choices, but I wanted to get yalls opinion on which is good based on experience. I'm open to anything. Also how much should I expect to drop-cash wise. I will have disc brakes going all around as well.

Also, looking to drop it enough to handle well, but by no means a lowrider. I want it to have a nice tough stance.

Like I have always been told and you will hear over and over ECE/Early Classic Enterprise. There are trucks all over this site with the setup and mine should be here shortly!

It has a complete ECE 4.5/6 drop.

Your a hour away from me if you wanna see in it person come look at after Xmas better yet come help install it on my wife's 67 C10 you can see quality,see how easy to install and give me some free labor!!!!! Sounds like win win oh always nice to meet someone new in the area into old trucks/cars. Brandon

It's my understanding you can have one or the other, handling or ride, not both. To handle the suspension needs to be stiff, for a nice ride the suspension needs to be soft.

Nothing wrong with ECE stuff, I agree. Hotchkis and others are more pricey though. What are you looking to spend?

Lowering spindles and springs can work pretty good with an agressive alignment and good shocks.
It doesn't matter how great your control arms are if the wheels aren't pointing the right direction.
I don't see the benifit of tubular stuff unless you plan on putting a cage in your truck.

Poly busing are great, especially body mounts (the body helps stiffin the chassis).

You can get good ride and good handeling, you have to be mindfull of the camber curve, chassis flex and roll center.
Its easy to make a stiff car handle good, the less the suspension moves the less the camber curve can change.

Hey Guys, thanks for throwing our name into the mix. I won't comment on the ECE products as I have never dealt with them, but I can obviously tell you about ours. It is true that you can buy other companies parts for less money than ours, but almost no one compares to the final product as far as quality and performance is concerned; not to mention all of our parts are made here in California with materials sourced from US companies.

First off, there is a lot to be gained by going to a tubular control arm like ours. Our lower control arms move the lower ball joint forward increasing both the positive caster (over 10* is possible), and centering the wheel in the wheel well on lowered trucks. Not to mention the added benefit of the arms themselves being stronger and stiffer than stock along with the Delrin bushings providing bind-free travel.

Mathew, what I would suggest you at least start off with is a set of 73-87 2" drop spindles, our 2"/6" lowering springs, the rear suspension package that includes the adjustable panhard rod and shocks (Fox Racing shocks come in this package, not the pictured Bilsteins), and the front shocks.

This will get the truck to the lowered ride height, allow you to center the axle with the adjustable panhard rod, and the ride will be excellent with the Fox Racing shocks.

Its possible to get over 10* caster with stock pieces. Renotch lower control arm pivot, also moving the wheel foreward.
