Hood hinge???

Both my 78 Jimmy and 80 Scottsdale hoods will not sit flush with the fender closest to the cab and cowl area. Is this a problem with the hinges or springs? I've noticed quite a few 73-80 trucks with this problem. Why doesn't the 81-87 trucks have this problem? Can I use hinges from the 81-87 on a 73-80? I did a thread search and didn't see anything on this topic (which I found strange) so sorry if this is a duplicate. Thanks for any help!

Re: Hood hinge???

It is not a hinge/hood adjustment, definitely the hinge is hooped. I just had the same issue, got a donor set of hinges off the parts truck, hood is now perfect.

I'm having this problem too. My old stock hinges were literally shot so I bought new ones with new springs from LMC and still it wont sit down all the way at the cab on either side. I'm having this problem too. What do you mean by the hinge in "hooped" please?

Re: Hood hinge???

It doesn't happen on the 81-87s because the hinge is completely different. They do not use the compound hinge that lifts and tilts at the same time.
They have a shorter hood with a "fixed" cowl and a "single pivot" hinge. The spring assist which holds it open, is a separate unit and theoretically doesn't even have to be there.
