Steering wheel choices - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Wondering if we could get a thread of steering wheel choices made by those who changed either a s10 one or original one. Would like to see how they look inside the cab. Thinking of going to junkyard for a 70's truck but want to see what would work and how they look.

Original columns at original height require a very flat spoke steering wheel. Anwy wheel with a dish or too small a wheel doesn't look right and is uncomfortable to drive.

They are hard to find now but years ago when my truck had the subframe under it and shortened column in It ran a Vega GT wheel for a while and liked it until someone offered me more money for 80 the wheel than I thought it was worth. It has an ugly mid 70's truck wheel in it now that is really uncomfortable with the stock column.

Darn, I was hoping to see some steering wheels

I'd like a different steering wheel, maybe for my birthday) This one was off of the 73 Chevy Impala that I got my engine from. This steering wheel is "OK" for now. I have an ididit tilt column, I'd like maybe a smaller diameter too.

82 eldo tilt tele column mated to 48 truck wheel. Like mr48 said, modern column required a flat wheel.

Get on Summit racing's site and they got a bunch to look at. I like the wood grain, polished spokes that are slotted.

I wanted a smaller wheel but wanted to stick with the original look. I couldn't find an after market wheel with the appearance I wanted so I shrunk my original wheel to 15 inches using a Ford ring.

Thanks to Skymang for the tip on the ring.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
