gas tank woe's - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I plan on relocating the gas tank on my 72 3/4 ton 4X4 from behind my seat to elsewhere. But my bed sides already have good paint on them and i don't want to cut them for a gas door. I will haul a lot of crap in the bed, so i don't really want the gas cap in the bed floor (due to the fact that i don't want a bunch of stuff getting into my gas tank). Should i mount one in the bed of the truck, or try the whole marker light filler thing? For the marker light idea, where do you get the filler hose and how hard is it to route it between the inner and and outer bed side.

Try this http://www.classicheartbeat.com/mark...t_gas_door.htm You can get the hose at napa or other parts places.You can do like in the article,or you can get a muffler adapter to hook together the two different size hoses.

I used a filler setup from a 69-72 Blazer tank for my truck. It stays out of the way and just had to cut a small hole in the bed floor.

Without stepping on anybodys toes.... to locate your tank to the marker light is no more difficult that what they have done. Do it right and do it the Tenniman way! The guy should get an award for such an creative mod!!!!

anyone's setup. The marker fill location seems a little prone to paint getting chipped or scatched also, fuel spillage on the paint. Many different options and personal preferences. No biggie!

I will agree with you that if you are not carefull you can get paint chips. I haven't had any real problems with gas nozzles (except in Cali) hitting anything in the area to damage the paint. I have had a couple of fuel spills (only in cali) on the side and had to clean them up pretty quick. The way to avoid that with mine at least) is to not 'top it off'. I put the click thing down and when it pops, I don't try and force anymore.
I use my bed alot, so I had to have something I could access from the outside, rather than the bed. I also didn't want to cut up my bedside for a fuel door.
On another note, I've seen some pics of your work and it is GREAT!! If I ever need a fuel cell, I will definately come to you!!!

Ive seen some setups where people used the original filler location, but put a blazer tank under the cab somewhere. They just ran some fule lines through the bottom of the cab and into the fuel tank under the cab. If i ever did one, i would do something like that. Im content with the original filler location, but i hate the fact that my tank is right behind my seat, plus when i fill up it makes me dizzy from all the gas fumes inside the cab!.
