most salvage yards should have a good selection of used late model motors. just as a example, i called the local yard and for$3,500 i can get a complete 5.3 LS1 style truck motor complete with all acc.,computer,exhaust,trans., and everything i need to swap the motor into my truck. they sell these to alot of street rodders so they know what i`ll need. also, the LT1 was about $4,000 with the same stuff.

I'm running a Ram Jet 350 in mine with a 700 R4 transmission. I haven't had a chance to see how it runs yet, but when I do, I'll let y'all know!
I've attached (I HOPE) my motor on the frame before assembly (about a year ago).
