Just sharing

Bought a 2000 2500HD, 4x4, std shift truck that was hit down the left side and a few other places. The 6.0 will go in my 51, maybe the inj, wiring and ecm also. Haven't made up my mind yet, carb or inj. Runs good, drove it Sunday to get a load of wood. I'll part out the rest of it and get a good bit of my money back. Ordered SW race car's 4 bar set up for the rear and bolted the musII front end on Mon. Finally getting something done, so I had to tell somebody.

Re: Just sharing

Leave it injected. You already have everything you need to make it run in the 51. You will have to spend some decent money to put a carb on it.

Re: Just sharing

I've got a 70 chevelle tank, 3/8's fuel line. Would a aeromotive frame mount pump do the trick? I'm changing heads and cam so that will mean a change in injectors. Just wondering what I'll get into.

Aeromotive makes good stuff. I would think that for a slightly warmed up 6.0L that pump should work fine. You could also cut the section from the truck tank that houses the pump and work it into your Chevelle tank. The 2000 engine uses a return style fuel system, so you will need a return line to the tank. You will also need to turn off VATS in the tune and whatever else you won't be using like maybe EGR, Evap, Rear O2s, Cat codes. Here is a pic of a tank I did for a 98 GMC. Jeff

It sounds like you've got a good game plan for a sound foundation.
Be sure and start a build thread for all us folks to enjoy.

I have to agree, I can never quite understand why guys go out and get the late fi engines that run great with the fi and get pretty decent gas mileage and then detune them with a carb that also cuts down on gas mileage because they a afraid of the fi.

You have a plug and play setup there and the best thing is you can really sort it out before you pull it out so you have no guess work as to if if it will work.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Is that a single 98 tank? I added an aftermarket 18 gallon aluminum one in the old wheelwell but am now thinking I would like to add another aux. in a location similar to your photo. My engine is 74 350 carburated. I have also been thinking maybe an early AD frame mount tank might work.

Yes, The stock pump runs as normal. The second pump (Walbro 340) comes on at 4 lbs boost. The mod is pretty easy to do and the pumps run cooler and quieter than an external pump.

VHT - PM me about setting up the tune in your PCM.

Re: Just sharing

If I go injected, I'll look at other tanks. The chevelle has had gas in it plus if I go in tank you need the baffles. I've got a guy that has all the software to do whatever I need, as far as being afraid of it, I've worked at GM, and ford for several yrs, I was working on them when HEI came out. I like manual inj better than anything, run alky inj for 16 yrs on the strip, but that won't fly on the street. A well set up carb system will perform as well or better than inj. My chevelle can set for 2 wks and start and run on it's own without a choke, gets 13 mpg and is running 600 hp. My wife could get better mpg, I can't, to much fun. I was just thinking cost, I know where there is 2 carbs and intakes. I'll see what happens, got to get the chassis done, the cab set on, and see what firewall mods I need. The trk motor accessories stick out quite a bit farther, so I might have to find a donor car for them.
