possible 1946 chevy shortbed project
A buddy of mine has this truck. Its completely taken apart and there is no frame for it, just the body. seems to be all there except the chassis. I dont know much about these trucks other than they are pretty much the same from 1941-1946. Is there parts available new for these trucks? I know the S-10 frames are popular but are the 41-46 frames hard to find? Any other frames work without too much work? Wouldnt build it into a show truck, maybe rat rod style who knows. Will definately be something we drive. Would be a father/son type with with my boy. He`s only 5yrs old but loves trucks like his daddy. I just want to know what I`m getting myself into if I bought this truck.

As far as frames, they are still out there. In fact there's a couple on Ebay right now I believe. Some new parts are available from places like Jim Carter. The biggest problem is finding fenders and running boards in good shape. The only new ones available are fiberglass that I have found.
As far as running gear, the 41-46's are identical to the 47's and up from the radiator back. In fact I put a complete TCI rear leaf kit for a 47 in my 46 and it bolted right up to the existing holes. The one thing you might have trouble with is title and registration depending on your state. |

Thanks. Havent looked at the truck yet but hoping for next weekend. suppost to be all there minus the frame but dont know what condition it`s in. I can pick it up pretty cheap but if I cant find parts for it then it might not be worth it.

I agree with paintman; what about a title?
A couple years ago I bought a 45 cab for $600 with a clear title. I don't know about west-coast but around here, it was a good deal.

Thanks guys. There is no title as far as I know but I`ve decided to pass on it. Just not alot of parts available for these year trucks and I would rather find a more complete truck to start with.
