With the design of these handles/latches and lock mechanism, there really isn't a way to make power locks reliable. The key only locks the button on the outside handle, not actually locking the latch assembly. The inside lever will only lock the latch after the door is closed/latched.
We've been trying a couple different ideas here in our shop, using stock latches, handles, but yet to come up with anythng reliable. Also, if you were to lock the latch assy, and for some reason the battery went dead, you could not unlock the truck using a key, like a modern vehicle- that would not be good.

There is a thread somewhere on this. Try a search. They did a write up on this in Custom Truck and I happen to have that issue.

BUT - what do you do if the remotes don't work? There is still no connection from the outside handle to the latch. Just like shaved handles- no battery- no entry, unless you have a mechanical failsafe.

Pop the hood and get a jump or if the remote battery dies-a brick opens any window.
