Floor mat aluminum molding finish question

Just curious as to how you guys go about restoring the finish with the moldings. I was thinking about polishing them but I'm kind of skeptical being that they'll be stepped on and have mud/debris spilled on them. Pics?

Re: Floor mat aluminum molding finish question

See if they are anodized first. If not some 1000 grit and 2000grit with polish after. Although it will take a few hours each at best you may be better off getting some new ones and if they aren't anodized then have them clear ano'd real thick

Cool Re: Floor mat aluminum molding finish question

Yikes!! those look like there too far gone to bring back. I got brand new GM ones from GMPARTSDIRECT.COM a few years ago don't remember what i paid but well worth it my '87 came with the black plastic one's and the new ones have a high polished finish and they look fantastic!

Good luck.

Here is the drivers side floor piece. I polished the rest but this was the worst one. Will post pics of the rest and the process that worked for me.

They're good driver quality. The scratches arent that noticeable until you have a high def camera centimeters away from them. I didn't want to spend the money on new parts if I can make these work for now.
