$13,000 is a lot of money but I have seen people spend much more. I would figure it this way. Materials will probably cost in the neighborhood of $2,500, that leaves about $10,000 to pay for "time". At $50 an hour that gives you 200 hours. 200 hours in my opinion is not all that unreasonable for a very good job. Again I have seen many more hours in projects that turn out to be worth a lot less. The one caution is making sure the bodyshop does not gouge you for any "hidden" costs. I have heard too many stores of I quoted $5,000 but ended up costing $15,000. Get in writing exactly what they are going to do and the cost.

My B-I-L got all bodywork sanding and paint with graphics and clearcoat over for $9,000.00. He has had the car painted for 2 years and now the paint is starting to turn foggy. The painter is known for good work and has done quite a few cars locally. His bodywork is impecable but the paint he has done seems to have some problems.
The painter is blaming the paint and the paint manufacturer claims no problems with the batch used. The only good thing is that the body work was probably worth $6,000.00-7,000.00.
My B-I-L figure he got a $2,000.00 paint job so even though he is going to repaint, he plans on a different painter and brand of paint. He probably got his moneys worth but it still wasn't what he expected or "assumed" he was being quoted.

Still if B-I-L offers me his '39 Chevy I'm takin it.

After readin' and followin' this for a day or two. Got a couple ??? Is that your garage and have you thought of doin' the prep your self? I know most folks wants a first class job and theres nothin' wrong with that. but if thats my garage and you got some tools. I'd prime and block it. Take your time and ask ???. I'm slow maybe to slow but I started last year on mine and almost ready. I da'd the whole body and primed and blocked and really enjoyed it. When I had a problem or ? got on here and asked or went to a buddy. And always got two or more opinions and took it from there. As far as shootin' the paint, I'm workin' on that now. I've got 5 guys that can lay down a great job. So my way of thinkin' is get started and yell for some help!!! Maybe I can get a good job cheap or '' FREE'' LOL!!! It don't hurt to do as much as you can and save some $$$. Just my 2 cents. Good luck Weasel.
