2nd series FF 14 bolt disc brakes?

Has anyone here converted their 2nd series (with non captured drums that slide off) FF 14 bolt. There are kits for these but they use 3/4 ton rotors and must be used as captured rotors.
I'm wondering if the newer non captured rotors from a Chevy or dodge 3/4-1 ton will fit over the 14 bolt hubs.

Or does some one have a newer truck that has a FF 14 bolt with factory discs?
If so, are the rotors captured? What year and type of truck?

Guess if no one has any info, I will have to spend some quality time at the local parts store

Re: 2nd series FF 14 bolt disc brakes?

Hey John!
How goes it?

Your timing is great, I was just checking out ruff stuff.
They have a weld on bracket that should work great, and its only $50 shipped!
Now I just need a bit of time to do some parts store recon to try and find a rotor.

Thanks for the help!!

Re: 2nd series FF 14 bolt disc brakes?

If I remember right there was one big design changes of the 14FF from 73-2000. (All of the factory drum brake ones, before they became AAM 1050s). The biggest changes are 88/89. The first design is probably what everyone thinks of... The second design has extra ribs cast into the housing, the pinion bearings are updated, and the brakes changed. All of the first design brakes are drum behind hub. Several variations of second design ones have drums that slide over the hubs.

Re: 2nd series FF 14 bolt disc brakes?

Back when I worked at Oreillys I was doing brakes on my 89 C1500 an curiosity got the better of me becaus I had read some police tahoes from 1999-2000 had rear discs an come to find out we carried replacement rotors an pads for the big dooley c3500 trucks. I thought no 88-98 ever had rear discs but apparently they had it listed as an option on later trucks but only C3500 trucks. Can't remember if they had them on 2500s and dont remember looking but thats what I found. If they did have discs as an option it must be rare as hens teath to find one!

I would bet it was the 3500 hd. 15000 gvw and 19.5 wheels. They all had four wheel disc brakes from 91-02.
