Quality door hinge pins?

Where does one find quality door hinge pins? I purchased a set from local parts store and when pin was tapped in, bushings shattered like glass! I've been reading a lot of people are having this problem even with Dorman brand pins. Thanks.....

I would like to know as well. Does the GM dealer carry stuff like this for these trucks?

Yes, I've bought them from GM. Not as cheap as Dorman though. I can't speak to the quality difference because I've not personally ever had any issues with either one.

I have been through this both ways - Dorman and OEM GM. Make sure you get the OEM GM door pins and bushings. The Dorman pins are too big and won't fit into the door hinges unless you ream out the hinge holes to fit them. Read my previous posts here. I made a support for the door out of 2 x 4 s and that worked well to get the pins in and out. The OEM pins come in packs of 5 pins and 20 bushings, so I bought 10 pins and 20 bushings and sold what I did not use here in the parts for sale section.

I think if you look around on the net for OEM GM hinge pins you can find dealers who will sell you one pin and a pair of bushings at a time. Your local dealer might do this but my local dealers were no help for me.

Found some GM pins on Ebay but had to pay a total of $36 including shipping for 4 of them.

I learned the hard way, just buy new hinges. Especially for the drivers side. It's worth the few extra dollars and you will be surprised at how low your door was sitting.

I had to buy a new upper hinge because of the old one was broke into 3 pieces. I ended up though only using half of the new one. The chassis mounted half that was on truck has a bolt coming into it from the back (from under dash area somewhere). I couldn't figure how to get it out so I seperated the new hinge and only used the door mounted side. Now I need a pin. Going to do other side after this one...

Here is a dealer selling pins one per at $3.15 ea but they want $8.95 for shipping. You are better off paying $4.95 ea at your local dealer if you can get them there.

Who knows, maybe so-called GM pins may be pot metal also. Plus the fact a place can call them GM pins but could also be the junk ones also. These were shown with a GM bag in the photo but you don't get the bag because bag held bulk amount of pins. That would be a good scam by buying a bunch of cheapies and take a photo of them with a GM bag. Will soon find out.

The GM pins are, in fact, GM pins. The big difference is that the diameter of the Dorman pins is larger than the GM pins, so the Dorman pins won't seat all the way down into the bushings/hinge openings - see my previous threads to view pics of what I mean. I bought standard GM packs of 5 pins and 10 bushings, which were packed from GM and labeled appropriately. If you are concerned about part origin you can do this and sell what you don't need.

I have owned 3 old squares and never had bad hinges, just bad pins and bushings, even in my old 73 rust bucket.
