spark plugs
I need OEM correct plugs and wires.
1960 chevy k10 283 - book lists AC 44 plugs as the correct factory plugs .035 spark gap. 1 green stripe or 4 green stripes? (as found with 1960 Corvettes) code after the AC44 - R, XLS, T etc - what is correct for the stock ignition system? Will "resistor" plugs work ok or is that only for HEI systems? http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-AC-DELCO...034534?vxp=mtr vs http://www.summitracing.com/parts/acf-r44xls Thanks

Re: spark plugs
I like the R44S. It is a more modern plug with resister & extended tip. XLS is wide gap for electronic ign. T is the tapered seat used in about 1971 up. If you want exact as original for judging you will need the 44 but I dought if you can buy them yet.

Re: spark plugs
Are you looking for "exact" correct spark plugs ? The AC 44 is what you are looking for but there were others offered for that application. None were resistor or R44. 44 45 and 45S are the vintage plugs . The 45 is considered the slightly hotter plug and I believe the "S" stands for a more heavy duty plug. 4 Green rings all the same size are "era correct" but to be exact you need to find spark plugs DATED before 1969 as they changed the tip from serrated to smooth somewhere in that time frame. This set has the smooth tip but correct even 4 rings. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-AC-44-4-...ddb6cf&vxp=mtr
This is a super early set. wish he had a closeup of the tip.http://www.ebay.com/itm/62-Corvette-...610768&vxp=mtr You can see they command a hefty price also. Just depends on what your trying to achieve . Jon

Re: spark plugs
Zetan hasn't given an answer about the purpose for original parts.
NAPA has AC plugs, and who really cares if they are 1 stripe or 4? Or why should I start paying attention to the # of stripes? Please enlighten me. The spare set of AC plugs I just looked at don't have any stripes. See? I am not in a panic. R45 is what I use in my 1966 C-10 283. The manual call for AC 44. I think the R43 plug would work really well near the Equator. Or in the Middle East/Sahara Desert area. What I use my truck for is not for show. I use my truck. I haul Lucy around when I go shopping, haul my motorcycle to the woods, pick up groceries and when I go do my laundry.

Re: spark plugs
Man i hear you, on the spark plug use. im almost done with a build i stated in 98'. when i started the build i just rip'd parts out and didnt care if they were oem or not, cuz i wanted to build a lowrider/hotrod truck. Now many years later i've learned sooo much about this truck and how to get awesome oem,nos parts and for cheap. i was just looking for info as i normally do and just when i thought i had enough stuff to finish this truck. someone goes and ask about those spark plugs and me being all crack'd out i had to investigate it, thats all cuz i have plugs and wires. hell i just drop'd off one of my 5 rims to the powdercoater today. i really dont need some fancy date correct plugs, but i just wanted to learn as much as i could, plus if i were to ever sell my build i may get a bunch o' cash. anyway thanks for smacking me outta my 65 stepside SWB BBW haze. ps thks for the info on the "colder" plug. ps i never posted pics maybe when its all done i will......

Re: spark plugs
While I agree AnlaufJohn about ":who cares how many stripes " for a daily driver, after all no one can see the plugs hardly once installed. Autolites are another good choice IMO also. But, Zetan asked for "I need OEM correct plugs" so I thought I would look the spark plugs up in an early Chevrolet parts book . I've learned quite a bit lately about "original" production line spark plugs especially with the trucks I recently purchased. Only trying to help and shed some light on the subject when it involves the words OEM correct. I enjoy learning about this stuff myself and this forum and its members have taught me a lot about these trucks, great forum great people !!

Re: spark plugs
Thanks for the input everyone.
We are restoring this truck as close to original as from the assembly line. No chrome, no modern upgrades. This truck will be for show or auction, not a daily driver. This is my first ground up resto, and my previous automotive experience has been with 6.2/6.5 diesel, so I have lots of seemingly silly questions. I realize these parts aren't seen seen easily, but I wanted to pass the bozo sniff test if someone pulls the wire off to look. If I went to autozone and got NGK B6S, it might look obviously wrong. I also don't want to waste money on a NOS part if not really needed. Regarding green stripe, I just noticed the difference while searching and wondered if it was important. 1 green stripe, 4 even stripes, 3 thin one thick... Here are some repro 4 stripe AC 44s http://www.ebay.com/itm/Reproduction...7eea6a&vxp=mtr The other thing I was told was to get the 7mm spark plug wires, not the thicker ones, for the stock look.

Re: spark plugs
I plan to sandblast the electrode and paint the rusty parts with high temp semi black and the non correct Packard wires will cover the thick green line, thanks for everyone's input. We all have our own idea for our respective builds, I'm just glad there is a site that info can be shared and for free. Enjoy your holidays
