cab swap question in mo

I need to swap cabs on a71 4x4. The one I have is junk. I have a good one I purchased a few years ago. It does not have a title. I have a hand scribbled bill of sale from po. it has vin tags on it I had heard some years ago you can take your truck and new cab to troopers head quarters and have everything checked and they will swap tag for you. has anybody done thishere in Missouri.

Re: cab swap question in mo

Inquire with your DOT most likely they will be in the theft division. They should be able to direct you how to legally do it.

Re: cab swap question in mo

To complicate things even more, apparently its had a cab swap before in Illinois. the vin tag on it is on the door pillar by the windshield. it matches all the other #s on the truck and title. Hopefully they can verify donor cab is ok and just move that tag to the new cab. Im doing a frame off total nut and bolt restoration on this truck and want to do it right.

Re: cab swap question in mo

Last November Mo started a visual VIN Tag inspection by a Law Enforcement Official on anything more than a certain number of years (25+?) when transferring a title from a non-Mo state titled vehicle. I have not went through this process yet personally but heard at a local car show it had started. A crack down on VIN plate swapping. If so a couple suggestions would be to talk to a local law enforcement type or DMV office. They may show at your house at your request, verify clean VIN for you and point you in the right direction.
