Stockish Looking relay ???
I have a relay bolted to the Drivers valve cover on my 1986 CC dually 454. It looks stock but not sure what its for. Ive combed thru my wiring diagrams but i guess i missed it. Anyone have any ideas?? Heres the best pic i have at the moment but can take another one if needed. The scotch locks are no longer connected to it.

Re: Stockish Looking relay ???
After some more research I think it might be for the oil pressure some how. Not sure what exactly though.

Re: Stockish Looking relay ???
According to the factory repair manual, that is the "speed switch" for the TRC (Throttle Return Control) system. The TRC is supposed to open the throttle a little bit while the truck is coasting in order to reduce hydrocarbon emissions.
That "speed switch" gets it's RPM reference from a connection to the HEI TACH terminal. It's contacts are supposed to close above 1900 RPM and send power to a vacuum solenoid. That in turn switches vacuum on/off to the throttle lever actuator mounted to the carburetor. |

Re: Stockish Looking relay ???
That definatley looks like it!! maybe the wires dont go where i think they go regardless its not gonna work since ther is no longer a quadrajet carb on it. LOL.. PO swapped it over to an Edelbrock. I have an older style quad on the shelf ive been toying with they idea of rebuilding it and putting it back on but i can buy an aftermarket intake and get rid of all my vacuum lines that arent needed just as easy and about the same price.
