scott's or porter built? air ride or coil over?

i just got a 72 suburban and im looking to upgrade the suspension. Which is a better kit? seems like adding all the stuff up for the porter built its more money.


ive ridden in air ride in an impala and it was pretty bouncy but it was also an older system. Any input on this towards a daily driver?

The first thing you should do is call Scotts hotrods up and call Porter built up and see what they say about there products and what is different between them both.You can see what fits your budjet on how much you want to spend.

First off welcome to the board!

Second, you need to decide really what you want out of your suspension... You mentioned upgrading it but just how so? Once you have a clear idea of what you want out of your burbs suspension, whether its a stock rebuild, lowered ride height or laid out on the pavement you can start contacting some of these company's and discussing their options for getting you there...

Both kits will get the job done but there are a few differences between the two that make them different. As mentioned, do some research both here on the forum, and make some calls to the various companies that make the kits. We have several forum members running our stuff and I am sure they can give you feedback as well.

If you have any specific questions feel free to contact us and we will happily answer them.

I am obviously bias to our components and would recommend them over anybody else. We have several options that are tailored to fit multiple variations in what your end goal might be.

Welcome to the board as well!
A properly set up airride system will ride amazing. You rode in a “pretty bouncy “ air ride system before, that could simply be the person didn’t install shocks. Take a weekend and go visit a car show, many people would have no problems letting you ride in a “bagged” vehicle. 1 inch off the ground or 10 inches off the ground airride can’t be beat. Too bad you weren’t closer to Az, got a handful of different airride equipped vehicles you could take for a spin, or hook up the gooseneck and see how they do towing as well.
Do your research, ask questions, it’ll be worth it in the end.

I would never ruin one of these classic trucks that are a part of history by lowering them. Especially chopping one up with air bags.... The horror...

I am not bias to anyone but I will say this...
In my case I need a partial kit, so to speak, for what I am doing.
I need a bolt in coil-over crossmember for my 63, coil-over control arms that accept stock 73-87 spindles, the coil-over shocks for a 600 lb. motor and mounting hardware, I have everything else I want to use.
I have spoken with both companys by phone and even visited Porterbuilt's shop a few months ago.
Porterbuilt told me they would be more than happy to put together what I needed and in the way I wanted.
I talked to the other company and was told how I was going to do it because what they sell is what they sell and thats it. The only flexibility was with brake parts or without brake parts.
I see very good quality in both company's products, I am not knocking anyones products however, in this business, IMHO, a company needs to be a bit flexible when it comes to meeting the customers needs.
Not everyone is building the same truck.
When I am ready I will be heading to Porterbuilt because, as I said, they will sell me the parts I need and the way I want them.

Hey guys. Has anyone installed the porterbuilt kit? I have a 68 c10. I wanna do a body drop. I see porterbuilt has a kit. I was looking into getting the stage 3 kit. I spoke to someone from porterbuilt. He said I would have to raise the engine and tranny about 3 inches. Is this something I would have to fabricate or is it when I install the kit and place the engine and tranny back in,it will raise the engine and tranny 3 inches?

We do offer motor mounts, and to add a little clarification, the Dropmember you are referring to lowers the truck in the crossmember by approx 3 inches. This does move the drivetrain up, but it's just over 1 1/2 inches not 3. Clearances do begin to get tight at the trans tunnel. We recommend installing a large hump trans tunnel to gain the extra clearance needed. Once you do a body drop you will lose another 3/4 inches.... The cab floor will need some additional mods at that point.
