Door hinge repair
How do the hinge repair kits work? Had anybody purchased them and didn't like them? I'm trying to decide whether buying a complete hinge or the repair kit. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Re: Door hinge repair
Repair kit works great...it's your bushings that are worn (originals are plastic), the hinges themselves are fine. You can get new pins and brass bushings from any parts store in the "help" section.

Exception to the rule...
I bought the pin and bushing repair kits. Took off a door, removed the hinges, sprayed the hinges with oil, and made a fixture for the hinges to sit on while I tried to drive out the pins. First pin mushroomed out and never moved. Tried the second pin. After a few taps, it started to mushroom also. Was going to soak in oil and then try heat but decided to just order complete hinges. I felt like I would be a better use of my time (aka patience). Everyone I read about has had very good results with the hinge rebuild kits but I always seem to be the exception. YMMV.

Re: Door hinge repair
The pins need to be pressed out or you will have the mushroom effect as described above.
