1959 4x4 conversion with power steering
In the process of converting my 1959 truck to 4x4. Already got axles bolted up and sm465 with np205. Parts were from a blazer , but stuck on the power steering issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: 1959 4x4 conversion with power steering
Look at my build thread. Also do a site search using the box above, this was discussed about six weeks ago. Also google "ford toyota steering box" and it will drop on to a link showing toyota boxes mounted in stock ford locations, very similar to TF truck. And there are after market guys now selling kits that mount the box in the stock location.

Yup...used Orrie's build thread to do Chevy PS conversion on my '58 4x4. Worked out pretty slick.

Re: 1959 4x4 conversion with power steering
Was thinking of using Chevy power steering box since that's what I already have. Any issues when turning all the way. Thanks

Re: 1959 4x4 conversion with power steering
The drag link end off the pitman arm just barely hits the tire when cranked all the way to one side. I've seen guys cut and shorten the pitman arm, but I'm not going that route for obvious safety reasons. I may get a new set off offset wheels or look into some wheel spacers.

Re: 1959 4x4 conversion with power steering
With 8" wide tires on 16" rims you loose about 1/4 turn at full right lock. In town it is not a problem unless you parallel park or turn tightly right a lot. Normal turns at intersections and into driveways are not a problem.

Re: 1959 4x4 conversion with power steering
I'm running a jeep saginaw ps box on my rig so I won't run into turning/rubbing issues
