Bench seats are they all equal??

Ok...so are the bench seats in the 67-72 chevy trucks all the same? For example is the foam and spring-frame assy the same between a 71 cheyenne model and the 71 deluxe model?

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

OK, There were three model options when it came to the bench seats from 67-72,
Custom Deluxe,
Custom (?) and Standard
The lowest model had springs that you could feel if you put your hand on the front of the seat.
The middle or top model up from that had the full foam? Foam that wrapped around to the front. So yes there were different seat options and cushion options

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

There are two types, regular and full foam.On lower models the full foam was an option.Basically, the cloth covered seats had more foam than standard.

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

The seat in my dad's 70' is thicker than mine but mine folds forward which I have heard was only offered in 67' so apparently there were a few seats for these trucks.

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

I have a '68 and the seat folds forward too and I know it's the original seat because my grandfather bought it brand new and it's only been in my family.

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

My '67 seat folded forward but it wasn't foam - it was cotton-covered springs, not very comfortable.

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

Z52 is the full foam (very thick) option number. My 4x4 has off brand buckets in it. I had two extra stock bench seats. I disassembled one of em. It came apart super easy. I was thinking man this is going to be a snap to redo this with my new foam and my new seat covers. It was the mostly spring seat with the really thin foam. I had no idea there were two kinds of benches. None of my stuff would work on it.

Luckily the other seat was the full foam seat. Unfortunately that sucker does not want to come apart. Ive soaked the big screws in the brackets with PB Blaster for days and they still wont budge. Harbor Freight has an electric impact wrench on sale for 20 bucks. Im going to buy one of those and give it another go.

Good luck on your search. There are a lot of threads on the board with seat installs from different trucks put into our style trucks.

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

There are a few different designs of seats over these years. But,it all comes down to two types when it come to construction in any given year...standard and full foam.

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

I am pretty sure that the '67 and early '68 had the seat that folded forward.

Re: Bench seats are they all equal??

Bumping this very old thread with a question - I just picked up a '72 K10, converted to a 396 and repainted but otherwise seems pretty original. Glove box shows option Z52 full foam seat. The seat foam is pretty thick. Is it normal to feel like the steering wheel is in your lap when driving one of these things? I have the seat all the way back and the steering wheel just feels so close to me.

I am only 6' tall so it is not like I am some kind of giant. Maybe that's just how these older rigs are?

There are also differences in the bottom brackets and as long as this thread is back up top I will post a link to the thread posted by Keith (lolife99) that shows the differences in them.

I just put a full foam seat in a C-50 for the local salvage yard. It had a standard spring seat in it and the full foam seat is about 3" taller than the one that was in it. The guy that usually drives it said that he can see over the hood now...
