Still not a big deal . I used the flat bars as a jig and made sure the center of the beam was both straight and level.Need a big steady table and the usual blocks and vises.Double check after each weld.Some preheat- I did not . The arco welder I have will cut through it if i really turn it up. Several other machinest in the area said the trick is to let it cool on its own - no problems. The Isuzu npr axle sounds intresting also - and you would already have disc brakes with common parts available.Having done a disc brake conversion on my 3800 and keeping the factory I beam- That is a big plus.
