Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
This should be some kind of new therapy. I bought this truck three weeks ago & I cant believe how much less stress I have in my life. I've been working on it about 1 hour a night & on Saturdays. Bought myself a small sand blaster & 2500 pounds of sand, what a blast. Now I guess the slow part starts, putting it back together & body work.

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
Very thing is original, except the tires & seat. Everyone tells me to keep it that way. We have taken the motor apart everything there is solid. The body only had two small rust hole in the cab corners. I thought for $1500 how could I go wrong.

Something therapeutic about being in the garage working on a project. I am lucky that my 10 year old son is also there to enjoy it. (better it is going to be his truck)

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
Hope to drop the motor back in this weekend. My good friend help me rebuild it completely. Just finished painting it, looks really good I think for a cabinet maker doing it. I will post more pictures as when I get the motor in. And yes the price for the truck was a steal.

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
I got the sand from a sand plant about a hour from where I live. 100 pound bags of sand for $5 a bag. So far I have used about 16 bags of sand to blast the frame & what you see of the cab. Going to need a lot more, but dose it ever do a great job.

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
ITs so easy to blast. This is my 14 year blasting the frame. He did the frame all by him self.

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
So the sand is not "proper" blasting sand? I bought 5 bags of blasting sand from Battlefield and it was around $37 for the five bags. Each bag was 20 Kg.

No its Blasting sand they call it Sil 4. I get it right from the sand plant by Redwater Aberta. You can get any grit you want from them Sil 1 to Sil 10. The lower the # the finer the sand.

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
What a great looking project. With winter around the corner you will find yourselves spending more time on it so that by time spring comes, it will be ready for the road. We got ours "finished" (ya they are never finished....) in June after a year of hard work and have put on over 1800 miles just cruising around in town...........

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
Be very carefull sandblasting the body. Sandblasting can easily warp the sheetmetal. I have seen panels ruined. Large panels like doors or roof panels should be sanded or use stripper. I worked for a truck painter for years and learned to only sandblast heavy steel panels, bumpers, wheels ect. Small panels pike pillars or a firewall with lots of bends for strenth are ok but not flat panels.

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
Wow that's a nice truck. I will follow this one. Those tires and wheels look nice on it to. Those are exactly what I had in mind for mine or maybe something that looks like a Craiger SSS

Re: Neil's 51 GMC Time Therapy
Believe it or not I find it three blocks away from my house. I was working at the guys house & he had his garage door open. Asked him if he wanted to get rid of it, and his wife said YES. Worked out great for me, I drove it home later that day before he changed his mind.

Getting ready to flash the motor. Want to make sure we have no problems after we have it together. Crossing are fingers.
