Bell crank question
I am doing a motor replacement in my 71 half ton. Originally the motor was a 250 inline six. A previous owner put a 350 V-8 in the truck. The motor was bad, I bought a new one and the install will hopefully be this weekend.
The bell crank that came out of the truck shows the arms having been cut and re-welded. The bell crank I have has a slight bend in it. I bought another crank from a guy that dismantles these trucks and it came from a V-8 truck. The one I got is straight. The new one is about one half to five eighths of an inch longer. Has anyone done this change out and encountered the same issue? I can only assume the old one got modified for some reason (to possibly clear the exhaust manifolds which have been changed from original). The original drivers side exhaust originally swept in and back. The one that came on the truck drops straight down. I plan on going back to the original configuration. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you. I can and will post photos of the two bell cranks if that helps. Michael |

Re: Bell crank question
The only issue I have is that the mount is different on the frame between the 6 and 8's. That has made me have to mod the Z bar.

Smitty,
I had a funny feeling there was a difference. Can you tell me what mods you had to do? Michael |

Re: Bell crank question
Hopefully someone will read this two day old thread......
So that I get things right, is there anyone out there in Southern California with a C10 truck, V-8 motor and a stick shift? I would like to have a look at the position of the bell crank bracket and the bell crank itself. Maybe I'm the dumbest guy on here but fitting the pivot ball and crank are giving me fits. I have three bell cranks....one that us bent (came off the truck), one from a V-8 C10 and one from what I don't know. I need to see which one works best or correctly. Based on a previous reply above I don't know why Chevrolet would mount the bracket on the frame in different locations on V-8 versus an inline 6. Yes, I know the motors are different size and design but it still perplexes me! I appreciate any and all help....... Michael |

Read through this thread and see if it helps. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=545110 Here is another one http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=526205 And another. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=380943 The way the ball mounts on the engine is different also. Some screw directly into the block and some have a bracket that bolts to the block that offsets the ball one way or the other... You can see them in the pictures I know that the 6 cyl bell crank is longer than the V-8. LockDoc
