Suburban 4x4 Rear Differential Swap Question
Does anyone know if the rear diff from a 1994 1/2 ton pickup is the same one ( and will bolt into ) my 1994 1/2 ton Suburban. Both trucks have 5.7 engines with 4L60 trans and the ratios are the same with 3:73's and the G80 posi traction.

Re: Suburban 4x4 Rear Differential Swap Question
it should bolt in the only thing you will need to do is cut and re weld the sway bar brackets back on the new rear. may have to swap the e brake cables too.

Re: Suburban 4x4 Rear Differential Swap Question
The suburban May have larger brakes than the pickup. It may be nessesary to swap backing plates. That would be a good time to change axle seals too.

Re: Suburban 4x4 Rear Differential Swap Question
Thanks for the replys. I am not sure which way to go. My rear axle is grinding
( and has been for 2 years ) and I was quoted 1500.00 by a very reputable shop ( I've been dealing with them since the 70's ) for new diff gears installed and then everything back there would be new and should outlast the Burb. I guess that is okay but I found couple of used ( wrote off ) trucks and to be cheap was thinking of swapping the diff from the wrote off truck but it has 180,000 miles and a year from now or even when I install the diff there is no guarantee it won't howl/growl from the get go. To go with new stuff the price of parts is reasonable but the labor is beyond mine or anyone I knows capability and it ads up fast using a Mitchell Flat Rate Manual at 80.00 per hour door rate.

Re: Suburban 4x4 Rear Differential Swap Question
I have an opportunity to buy a salvage 1999 Tahoe 4x4 that has the 3:73 with G80 rear end. Does anyone know if the diff in the Tahoe is the same as the diff in my 1994 Burb 4x4 with 3:73's and G80. My burb has the 14 bolt rear end and I'm thinking the Tahoe would have a 12 bolt? ?? My Burb and the Tahoe both have 6800 GVW ratings. One last question, my Burb has the manual transfer case and the Tahoe has the push button type and consideing I'm changing rear diffs that shouldn't matter, right? I cant go look at the Tahoe because it is 150 miles away and if I bid and buy it, I own it..

Re: Suburban 4x4 Rear Differential Swap Question
is the Tahoe coil or leaf rear. if it is leaf it is a direct swap. with the exception of the brakes if they are disc rear. possibly the e brake cables are different if it is drum. electric shift or manual t case make no difference.
