C Notch Question
Being new to this Chevy truck world and learning the applicable terminologies it is nice to see pics posted so I now know exactly what "C Notching " means. Now for my question. I have a 72 Long box with coil springs and I want to do a 4inch drop on the rear and 2 1/2 in the front. If I do not C Notch the frame will my axle hit the frame all the time.

I Forgot
I forgot to mention that I have 235/75 r15 tires on 15 x 8 stock Chevy rallye rims and plan to run 17 inch tires with about the equivalent width and high or slightly taller and wider.

Well, tire/wheel size is really irrelevant regarding your question. You'll be fine with a 4" drop and no c-notch. Some guys are running 6" rear drop without a c-notch with no problems.

Well, I have a 4 inch rear drop and I have only hit the bumpstop on the frame once... Well I actually rode on the bumpstop I had 20 8 foot treated 4x4 posts in the back of my truck. I had to do it for a job I was doing. But to answer you question you will be fine with a 4" drop. Slammed67 is right there are a few guys running a 6" drop with out a notch in the frame and, they haven't had any problems.

Thanks
Thanks for the help and advice. I'll try it without and if it becomes a problem deal with it then.

I have a 7" drop and did a c-notch, I dont know if a really need it. But since I'm doing a frame off, I thought this would be the best time to do it incase I want to go a little lower later.
So if you have your truck already apart like mine it might not be a bad idea to do it now while its easy. |
