Plasmacam??????CNC Plasma
Any of you got a Plasmacam? If so give me the good, the bad, and your thoughts on it's value. I just seen them on youtube and I like what I see.
Started out just wanting a plasma cutter...........now I want a plasmacam. Thanks for any input. |

Subscribed.
Research well as the company has had less than a sterling reputation in the past plus other upgrades you will need (compressor, software, etc).

Re: Plasmacam??????CNC Plasma
I was looking at one as well. The $6k "Turnkey" setup turned out to be 10K before you actually cut with it. There are several places that make them now. Most companies assume with their "Turnkey" system that you already own the power unit, compressor that can keep up with the cutting, vent system and the software to run it.

What upgrades would you need, will your compressor be adequate, have you considered operating costs (consumables) and have you looked at the competition? Is Customer support and warranty good for the Plasmacam? Mostly, what would you use it for and how often? If it's just for fun and if you just want it and can afford it...period? Get it! Do you hope to make it pay for itself? Guess again unless you're really, really lucky or very good at marketing. Have you considered used to see if you like it? You can always resell the first one, if you do, and buy a newer one.. Not saying Plasacam is bad; not at all. But you need to do a lot of research on such a pricey item IMHO. I've bought plenty of high-dollar tools and later took a major loss when they were not the fun or labor/time/cost-savers that I had expected. And I lost a bundle of money when I sold them. Sorry about the tirade but I am a VERY cautious buyer whose learned from experience (sadly), on big ticket items, when I didn't research very, very well. I would still love to hear from those who have this system! Still subscribed. Touché' . Last edited by ETsC10; 01-04-2014 at 12:16 AM. |

Re: Plasmacam??????CNC Plasma
i guess a turnkey engine in your book would be a truck.
not much will run without a gas tank or a trans these days

Re: Plasmacam??????CNC Plasma
we just bought a 4x8 turnkey cnc plasma table for the shop. pricey toy if your just making your own stuff.
we had a specific need for a cnc plasma table. look over on pirate4x4.com or plasmaspider.com lots of good information and users over on those sites. i would give you some serious feedback and recommendations, but i just ran our first piece on it today. most light duty plasma tables use candcnc.com controls, mach3 bladerunner and sheetcam tng for control of the cnc part. plasmacam has proprietary software to run their's, but they only make a 4x4 table max size and had no rotary table that we required. torchmate was recently bought out by linclon electric (think welders) and have nice but pricey stuff. after all my research bulltear.com gave us the most bang for the buck and we took delivery of the table last month.

Re: Plasmacam??????CNC Plasma
i looked at the plasmacam, torchmate, etc and ended up building a table, using the precision plasma gantry and candcnc electronics and sheetcam/mach3. 4x4 table due to my size constraints. hypertherm 45
the software setup was aggravating due to inaccuracys in the manual and in some of the customer support but it all sorted out |
