Re: tailgate arms

I don't know if all years were the same, but I've seen them painted body color and bare cad or zinc. My 69 was originally painted body color. I remember when the paint started peeling, and I completed the job. I looked at two beds in Phoenix a year ago that were taken off when the trucks were new. One, I believe the 68, was painted. The other, a 71 or 72, was raw.

Re: tailgate arms

The ones on my 72 were zinc plated, I had them replated when I freshened up the truck last year.

Re: tailgate arms

This came up when I was painting my truck. My cousin, who has been doing body work forever, said most of the ones he had seen were zinc.

Re: tailgate arms

Not looking to argue, but all the trucks I've had in 40 years were painted. And,I generally buy original paint trucks. I have a box full that are all (original) painted. Maybe people have been seeing replacements that were never painted. Or maybe some just didn't get painted, for whatever reason. Maybe different plants?

Re: tailgate arms

Body color as far as I can recall on every original condition 67-72 Fleetside I can think of. On the other hand I can see the plated arms staying nicer much longer.
