Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

The promos, original kits, and all those Ertls...I love them all. Nice bunch of trucks there. That '66 promo is one I'd love to have.
I have a pretty good collection of 67-72 truck promos. I always wondered how many different ones there are all together. I had heard two colors for each year. Was it a set pattern like that or something else. I don't think I've seen more than two colors in a given year. Not sure I've seen every variation ever. I have eleven with one or two being duplicates.

Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

I love the made in China diecasts you can buy when they come out,but at heart I am a vintage toy nut. I like the rare and unusual and I'm proud to say I just bought this funky little toy of one of those green EZ Haul Truck Rental trucks from circa 1970. It hasn't shown up yet,but here are pictures from the Ebid listing. It was probably a premium given to your kid when you rented a truck

Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

I hear ya. This was probably free originally. Just a cheezy give-away. Sometimes those are the most expensive collectibles...if highly desired. I was searching Google for pictures of a real EZ Haul truck to show a member last week because he just bought one w/o the cube body, not knowing till I said something. I went to the site and it was Ebid and current with a buy it now. Never done Ebid and it looked like it was being offered in England? I saw the seller was in Ohio,so I sent him a question if he'd take a postal m.o. and he did. With shipping it was $12. I hope I didn't jinx this deal posting before it's in my hands!
I found these a while back, but couldn't afford them...DANGIT! I have found a lot of cool stuff but just can't pull the trigger these days. I just brought this thread back from 2 years ago. Looking for these 2 I found a lot of GM truck toys I've either bought of saved pictures of. So,check back if you like seeing this "obscure" stuff

Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

Me too,and they ain't cheap! IIRC,they were a good bit over $100. But,these are '50s vintage Japanese tin friction in about mint condition.
Here are other cool GMs I don't think I showed. The last one (Hubley) killed me no being able to buy:

Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

The Smith-Miller COEs were GMCs. The Structo camper is a Corvair 95. Cam't recall whomade the tin Bekins truck, but it's a GMC

Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

All of those type trucks have always been out of my reach pricewise ,I guess thats why I collect Nylint trucks ,they are fairly inexpensive but a lot of people are into those now as well which drives the prices up .

Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

The later Nylint stuff will go up,I'm sure. One day people will realize they are no longer and they made more realistic & detailed stuff and way longer than Tonka and Buddy L. My youngest son was born in '92 and I bought him Nylint stuff. They had a catalog and you could order direct from them. Went he took his Aerial Hook N Ladder out of the box the basket was broken. I contacted them and they sent out a new piece and told me if I ever needed any parts, let them know. The siren went up and they sent out another. They were the last great vehicle toys made from steel...to be played with. All this goofy plastic junk survives and they went out. It's a sign of the times. If it's not from a movie or tv show kids don't want it.

Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

Me too,for different reasons. That Matchbox is just a great realistic model. Would be great for a town diorama. That customized tow truck? WOW! The 4wd Stepside is an older hard to find example to add variety to any collection. Let's see what other pics I have for today...since we share the same appreciation

Here's another color of the 4wd and diecast never gave us much LUV:

I took that truck everywhere with me and I was PISSED when my parents sold it at a garage sale! I wish I still had it. Even though it was really one of the cheapest toy trucks I had as a kid, it has always had a prominent place in my memories.

I like all those, too. Don't see that Cherokee hardly ever. HW didn't do many of the Stepsides. I think they were called 4x4 Commando,or something like that. I had some Matchbox and HW big rigs, but ended up selling those off. Not because I didn't like them. Needed money and to trim down. I knew guys would buy them at an show that had big trucks

That may have been a dime store toy,but a bet the play value was huge. Probably rolled across the ground like a real 4wd and it's light weight would have done great on sand. Then there's no worried with rust. Am I getting to technical about a toy?

A friend of mine collected the smith Miller's there's at least 20 of them on shelves through out the house. He passed away about ten years ago. I was visiting his wife a while back and she told me the cement mixer is mine when she passes. She showed me that he put my name on a tag underneath it. I believe its a Mack.

Smith-Millers are awesome...cream of the crop. I know the one you mean. It's a Mack B,I believe, with "Blue Diamond" on the door*. You mostly saw Smith-Millers on the West Coast

*IIRC,as with most everything I say

Re: Picture Thread:Cool Little GM Trucks

Steve Butler in York,PA started offering Smith-Millers again using old stock parts and reproducing others. He bought the rights. All American Toys are offered, way expensive, and also more detailed like Steve's Smith-Millers. I'd show pictures but only the COE Smith-Millers are GMC. I showed an orange one. The macks are the hot ones. These trucks are die cast aluminum. A step above the pressed steel toys, like Tonka,Buddy L,etc.

Here are some Tootseytoy GMs (more affordable)
