Parts ordered

Well time to get started. Just placed the order for mustang 2 front end and also a SKP steering kit. Did lots of looking and ended up going with Southern Rods and Parts out of South Carolina. Anyone else ever dealt with them? I did ask a lot of questions before ordering and they guided me in the right direction. Will update everyone on my progress in the build section.

Re: Parts ordered

J48, I see you've been around since mid-2013, but I'll still say, "welcome to the forum"! Did you get 2" dropped spindles or standard? Any other options on your IFS?

Overall, looks like an exceptional truck to start a project with! All the best with it.

Re: Parts ordered

As far as dealing with S. rods, yes. I have been to their showroom a few times and bought a few parts from them. I would say 95% of their bussiness is either net or show driven. Sales service was good but after the sale support was not so good. Had many issues with their Southern Air unit and I would not recommend it. For suspension I'm sold on Fatmans in NC and have used 3 of them, all worked out great with gread support. S. Rods is a discount parts supplier, and like any discount place there will be some trade off. If anything you get from them comes from China be leary. I work in China and trust me, they have very low to no quality control.
Good luck

Re: Parts ordered

Thanks. Yeah working as a retail manager I had no time all winter so just getting started now. Been kind of "stalking" the site. A lot of great information on here. I went with the 2" drop spindles as I want a lower stance. I did the power rack and just basic coil spring set up. Still better than the original suspension.

Re: Parts ordered

Thank you. Just went with the basic upgrade to coil spring set up. Going to be much better than original suspension.

Your logic and selection was the same as mine on my 55.2, but the Fatman (my choice) with the 2" drop was too much. SRods looks like the Fatman. so you may have the same problem. I'm down about 7" or so with the standard setup. I didn't know for 2 years, when I finally welded the setup in, and Fatman not only took the 2-inchers back, they delivered standards to me at the Street Rod Nats, and would have talked to me for as long as I wanted at the show. They were great!

You might want to call SRods and ask them "how low you will go", and try to keep the door open on a swap until you can do an actual fit.

Good Luck!

Re: Parts ordered

Thank you very much for that info. I did not realize that when you weld in the cross member it will automatically drop it 2-4 inches. With the drop spindles that would be more than I wanted. I just called them before my order ships and switched it to stock height spindles. I was only looking for a max of 4 inch drop anyway. Again, appreciate you sharing.

Re: Parts ordered

I was looking at their crossmember as the price was friendly and will be waiting to see your opinion when you get the pieces.

Re: Parts ordered

Yes that was one of the reasons I ordered the frontend kit as it was a very good price. Will let everyone know once it arrives.
