Camaro clip questions
1. What is the general consensus on moving the axle center line on a 57
2. What are you guys doing for air bag set ups on the camaro clip? 3. Should it hurt to leave the a-arm braces out. The ones that bolt to the frame, cross member and rear of the lower control arm. Please help Thanks for any replies |

Re: Camaro clip questions
Xdk5,
1) The idea is to extend the wheelbase by approx. 1 1/2 inches, in order to center the wheel in the well. 2) I'm not bagging mine, so no help there... 3) If I remember correctly, there is only one brace on the driver's side, and only on the Z28 package as a torque brace. If you're building a hefty engine, you might want to keep it. Hope this helps! |

Re: Camaro clip questions
Moved WB about 1 1/2" forward but eyeballed it using front clip at ride ht.,before welding. No braces. Not bagging but used Heidts control arms and coil overs but they are set up for Shockwaves if I change my mind later.

Re: Camaro clip questions
I got a 77 Camaro clip on my 59. I bought the shockwaves for oem control arms off ebay. it saves a lot of time and headache. the subframe sits about an 1 1/2" off the ground in the front. The rear is getting set up right now for bags. I ll have some pictures of that posted soon. Its going to be similar to how the guys at hales speed shop did their trucks. check out my build for pics of the truck

One more question how wide of a wheel can you get on front? Backspace? |

Re: Camaro clip questions
not sure just yet. I have an 8" wheel up front in the pics. its an old rally wheel so whatever the offset they are. you can see it fits nicely in my pics.

Re: Camaro clip questions
The Heidts control arms I used are 1" shorter than stock expressly for getting a decent wheel in front. I have 17x7 Welds with 3 1/2 backspace and I still had to cut a little out of the inner fender lip to get a reasonable turning radius AND it's still not nearly as tight a radius as it could be with a smaller wheel. But at my ride ht. the tire is in the well some which complicates things. Taller trucks would have less of a problem.
