Amber VS Clear turn signals

so, my truck has the original clear turn signal lenses up front with clear bulbs... the screws holding the lenses on are all rusted and for $5 each im gonna get new lenses and screws....... im undecided between the clear lenses and amber ones.
for safety reasons, the amber ones are better, but I do like the look of the clear lenses..
what do you guys think about amber lenses vs white lenses with the light blue color of my truck?
there aren't any laws that say that I need to change to amber lenses, are there?

Re: Amber VS Clear turn signals

I agree. The clear lens looks better. I have clear lens with amber bulbs. The advantage is you can see the amber turn signals when the headlights are on

I did the same. Depending on the truck color, amber lenses just don't look right to me.

Re: Amber VS Clear turn signals

The amber is ok and often looks great on a mod rod type truck but on yours I like the white lens like the other guys do.

My truck's a similar color. I chose clear lenses. I also used clear bulbs... it just looks old that way.

Re: Amber VS Clear turn signals

One thing may make an amber bulb difficult is your housing. If its a parking light only it won't take a double filament bulb, if it has parking and turn signals your good to go.

Complete units are available with clear or amber lens and double filament bulbs at a reasonable cost.

I like them on mine also and since we have close to the same color, you can see how they might look for you.

When I received the new LED's that change color to amber on turning (found the vendor on this list-serv), I enjoy both colors. I drive with them in 'parking light mode' as daytime running lights. -Doug

Hey Speedbump. I would sure like to see pictures of all of your truck. How much did you chop the roof?

Cut 3" from the top. What you see is about what there is right now. I'm fighting the cold air box/hood pancake/tunnel ram fight now but it's the last hurdle I have to overcome. Hope to post some completed pics in a couple of weeks. The only exterior difference will be the charcoal pin stripe on the belt line.

Re: Amber VS Clear turn signals

I considered both colors but decided on amber. I think to some extent it depends on what color the truck is, and whether you leave the chrome hood and fender trim on or not. At least it's cheap and easy to change if you don't like your first choice.

Re: Amber VS Clear turn signals

Both my stock clear ones were cracked so I got amber replacements. My thinking is all modern cars have amber for turn signals and that is what most drivers will be looking for and recognize.

Pete - Here you go... Tony Edler is on the TriFive.com list-serv, too. I don't know about this one but here is the contact info. Tony was very helpful, I love my LED's and yes, they flash amber and white when in 'parking/daytime-running light mode'!

Re: Amber VS Clear turn signals

In my state you don't have an option. They have to be amber or red on any vehicle manufactured since 1955. Personally from a safety standpoint I think red or amber enables other drivers to see those colors quicker and farther than white. I use amber bulbs on my parking lights/signal lights. Many people have the misconception that parking lights are used when it starts getting dark and then when the sun goes completely down you switch to headlights. this is not true. Parking lights are only used when the vehicle is parked and not moving. So, the color of the parking light means very little as far as the color of light it emits. The amber bulb allows me to have a stock look in the day and an amber light at night.

The bulbs that shine both white and amber is a great idea. I looked at the site but it appears that the bulbs are for Mopar vehicles. I want to know where I can get them for my '53 Chevy truck. Plus the fact that I did not see a price sheet or an order form. So, where can you buy them?

Re: Amber VS Clear turn signals

The Mopar was just an example that Tony used. Call or email Tony... he'll work it out for you. They work with 1157 bulb sockets (along with an electronic flasher I purchased at NAPA) and are great on my '57 p/u...

Re: Amber VS Clear turn signals

Thanks Ruby57. I will do that. Approximately how much are they? I went from a bulb to a LED bulb system I bought from a company at last springs Charlotte Motor Speedway Auto Fair and it uses a 2 connector flasher with a seperate ground.
