05 lt avy cluster troubles
My mom has a 05 lt avy it's been a pretty good rig it has 200km and still runs strong. She's leaving soon and I want to fix the cluster for her while she's out west (trucks staying at my house). The speedo is pegged past 200km/h and the tach acts up once in a while. Is it the cluster it's self that's messed or a speed sensor? Thanks dru

Re: 05 lt avy cluster troubles
The problem is most likely in the cluster. The stepper motors that GM used in the 2003 to 2007 or so time frame are notorious for causing these type of problems. Those motors are what move the gauge needles. When they go bad, they cause the gauge to quit working (sometimes intermittently), give false readings, stick at certain spots, or stay pegged.
There are numerous places that repair these clusters by installing new motors. But if you're handy with a soldering iron you can do it yourself. I'd recommend buying one of the kits that includes 6 of the new/improved design stepper motors (or 7 if the cluster has a trans temp gauge) along with new bulbs. That way you can replace everything while it's apart. Just do a google search or look on ebay for places that repair these clusters and/or sell the parts for you to do it yourself. |
