Fuel Cell
Ok the 1st of the month im going to be putting in a fuel cell in my 65 Chevy truck.I already got all the measurements so I know this is the right tank that fits between the frame rails. My question is what all will I need to put the tank in? It comes with a cap with I'll have it out the bed floor flush. My engine is a 04 350 vortec dynoed at 350HP it has some of the best flowing cast iron heads Chevy made.I need to know what if anything will I need to mount the tank such as will I need special lines, braided lines, anything special that I'll need to make it work.

Re: Fuel Cell
You will need some sort of support for the tank if it's under the bed, I would use some beaded lines to a new hard line that goes front to back.

Re: Fuel Cell
Going to need more info. Are you keeping the EFI or carb'd?
If EFI you will need the correct high pressure fittings and lines, a return line, the correct inline filter, in-tank or inline fuel pump, etc. For basic tank install, you will need the tank straps, a sending unit, fuel hose and clamps, wire for the sending unit and a few bolts, nuts, etc, etc. |

Re: Fuel Cell
It all depends on do you want to "just make it work" /be cheap or do you want to do a nice install that will give you the best performance.
If it's the first choice, it really doesn't matter. If it's the second, then replacing all the old, crusty steel line along the frame would be a great way to go. I'd make sure to use 3/8" steel line. Install a good quality fuel filter close to the tank and continue to run one between the pump and carb. Also when connecting the rubber hoses, use hose clamps for fuel injection, they will not cut into the hoses if overtightened. You will need a -8AN to 3/8 barbed fitting at the tank to connect your fuel line and a -8 AN cap for the other sump outlet on the tank. From the description, you will also need a -6AN to barb fitting to run the vent hose. Most sending units with a swing arm float will not work in a tank with foam in it. RCI sells a sender without the swing arm, as does Auto Meter, but they are not cheap. I'm sure there are a few things I left out, but that's all I can think of for now. |

Re: Fuel Cell
I contacted summit racing about the fuel cell im going to be ordering for my 65 Chevy truck. They replied back saying that the fuel cell I was going to order was strictly a drag racing tank And gave me the link for the right tank I need.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-290100 This one comes with a GM sending unit And every thing else is the same as the other fuel cell regarding the measurements so it will fit.I do have one question tho about which fuel gauge I'll need to buy.He told me that my stock gauge would not read right with the sending unit that comes in the cell.I need a gauge that goes 0 ohms empty to 90 ohms full And would prefer a autometer phantom series so it will match the temp gauge I have.this cell is 20 dollars more but im going to try And sell my stock tank since they are nothing wrong with it.I'll be able to recoup some of my money back by doing this. |
