Re: Found NOS Engine tie-down kit on ebay
This is a case of form over function. I'm sure most guys on here can build these for little to nothing. A NOS set of these would be an awesome addition to a serious restoration project.

Re: Found NOS Engine tie-down kit on ebay
My first vehicle was a 68 Impala with the 327. Those things were so stout they would break the driver side mount so GM placed a limiter on the mount which was a cable with a loop on each end, I guess this is sort of what these are for. I did not know the trucks had them. Unless you are going for a perfect restoration I would save the money. I used solid mounts on my big block. Kinda like they way it shakes the truck.

Don't the replacement mounts have a lock built in now? I think it looks a lot cleaner without those.

Re: Found NOS Engine tie-down kit on ebay
The reason for the tie downs was because the motor mounts were separating and when coupled with the rod style linkage, held the throttle wide open. Gm issued these to satisfy the problem and were installed by the dealer. That is part of the reason for the switch to the cable style linkage in 71, these were an attempt to avoid a recall to replace motor mounts in every gm made basically. I had an older friend who told me about a broken mount ( drivers side, which got the loop portion at the rear of the block and a tie off at the front as well as a tie off on front passenger side) that scared the crap out of him. The mount broke and jammed the throttle rod and he went through a store front. The local dealer fixed the truck and installed the hold downs along with new mounts.

Re: Found NOS Engine tie-down kit on ebay
That is funny, I just took a motor and transmission out of a parts truck and it had that kit on it ,thats the first time i have ever seen one and i have dismantled a bunch of 67-72s.I used to just bolt a piece of chain and leave a little slack in it on my old 4x4s. That same truck is a 1/2 ton and it has a leaf spring overload on the front bolted to the bottom of the a arms and a half leaf spring overload on the rear that I have never seen

Re: Found NOS Engine tie-down kit on ebay
A couple of 3/8 bolts and some chain was the same "farm fix"around here. Jim

My 67 still has this, its not bolted to the head, just hanging off the frame. Pretty cool find though.

Re: Found NOS Engine tie-down kit on ebay
Sure you could easily build one, but if you like OEM NOS stuff this is a very cool find.
