Is it worth it?

http://onslow.craigslist.org/cto/4306071898.html

Above link is a truck I am going to look at in the morning, I talked to the guy on the phone today. Supposedly bought from a marine who went on deployment and came back having lost interest. Sat for the last year and a half. Drums brakes all around. He has replaced the transmission ( didn't mention whether auto or stick) and has a crate 350 with around 10k miles. I am mainly interested in swapping the whole front clip and maybe the cab onto my truck to save sourcing doors, passenger fender, front bumper, radiator support and grille. Looking at the two pictures he has up what can you tell me? I know I don't have a lot of info and not enough pics but I hope I can get more knowledgeable people than me to chime in and tell me if it is worth getting. Thanks for your help,
Mike.

With the information provided I don't think that is too bad of a price, It would depend on how bad the rust is in the cab supports, bottom of doors, kick panel area, firewall, above the windshield on the inside, bed sides....etc.

Re: Is it worth it?

Thanks for replying Locdoc. I have seen you post on here often and you seem really knowledgeable about these trucks so I will definitely keep that advice in mind. I will try to take pictures and post them when I get back tomorrow. Do you think it is feasible to flip the remaining parts if I get it? I am getting stationed in Hawaii in May and don't want to pay to ship two vehicles(2200) each vehicle from where I am. It will be easier to justify to the wife if I can recoup some of my money. But I know a couple months ain't that long to work with

Re: Is it worth it?

Seems like a good road worthy truck to part up and trash out, i say pass it and find some else to use for parts and leave that one for somebody who wants to drive it

I always enjoy it when they 'need to sell' for whatever reason, but in the same line say they will trade for another vehicle.

Re: Is it worth it?

Thats a good looking truck to part out imo...on a different note, ive lived in onslow county since 2008 and have never seen that truck. I never saw it driving on base when I was still in the military. Wonder where its been hiding

Did you buy it?
What shape is it in?
If it's decent, and you didn't buy it, I am looking for my first special project car!

Re: Is it worth it?

It may just be me or the fact that I have been looking at wrecks on the monitor till I'm crosseyed but that truck looks like it has been hit in the front before. Of course a lot of them have and if they have been fixed right sometime it matters not what what drew my eye is the bed gap and it not being the same going all the way up and down the back of thew cab. I just go to those thing first cause I build wrecks and have for so long. This also could be indications of rusted cab mounts on the frame or body mount crush [that is very probable]or even the rear cab mount supports rusted so bad that the cab has dropped. In either case it might be worth crawling under the truck to take a look. It may be nothing but my total lack of sleep from last night[only 1 and 1/2hours] or the camera playing tricks on me.

Re: Is it worth it?

Hey guys I have went and looked at it and it was not as described. He told me he had an offer of 1200 on it and that would be top dollar for what is there. A list of the issues... Definite shoddy rust repair on rockers, drivers door looked like either duct tape or something like that had been painted over on bottom of door, rust above windshield on drivers side minor rust ( that I saw) on passenger rear panel. I didn't have a magnet so I can't say about bondo, but there was definitely

Re: Is it worth it?

Rust in the in the passenger front fender ( might be salvageable) radiator support had the typical rot, and the hood had been eaten thru on its front edge. The two bright points I saw to the truck was the bumpers and the grille. I did not hear the engine runs so can't say anything about that. Sorry for the run on, but it was not what I needed it for. If the paint job isn't hiding bondo then the bed might be fairly decent it had a bedliner so I can't report on the interior of the bed. I took pics and will try to figure out how to post them

Re: Is it worth it?

If you didn't take it, and you thought it was OK then I was going to make an offer.
Thanks for doing the "leg work" because I would have about a four hour drive to get there!
Your photos really showed the car as it should be shown especially when you have to travel to see it.
Thank you and regards.......
