removal of complete dash
at some point someone had photos and said that ths was something easy to do.. anyone has any suggestions...
i know its spot welded below the windshield

Project:Charlie My Grandfather-in-law bought a 1968 StepSide in 1993 and worked hard to restore it, in 1994 he had in almost fully restored, when the body shop's owner's son stole all the parts, as a good man he never pressed charges, and let it go 20years later i have taken this truck back and working to put it back together for him as a surprise |

Is that #6 panel thing easy to fix that has rust-through? It appears my 1968 has a rusted spot there that might be leaking down into my floor kick panels (they are rust-bubbling for some reason).

My dash had been cut up for a radio and had all kind of weird holes in it. I also wanted an A/C dash. I replaced my dash in a different way then most guys. From what I've seen, most people drill out the pinch welds, remove the six bolts (3 per side) and pull out the old dash. Then they install the replacement dash and weld in place, and then repaint. I didn't want to go this route because my truck was already painted and I didn't want to install the new dash and worry about painting it afterwards.
What I did was cut out the old dash using a cutting wheel. I did not drill out the pinch welds. The replacement dash was painted ahead of time, so it matched the truck perfectly. The new dash was reinstalled and secured using automotive panel bond. It is crazy strong and has held great. You can see my pictures. Pic 1 shows original dash with holes, cut up radio area and no A/C Pics 2-4 show replacement uncut A/C dash installed and secured with vice grips until panel bond dried.
