Building a 10th scale 1975 Blazer

Hello, as you can guess my name is Jeff.

I started the 1st thread on my basic hobby, and if no one cares too much, I would like to do a thread on one of my builds start to finish, to give you guys a chance to see how I build one.

It is scratch built , but this body is already formed, so its just a matter of cutting and re cementing it.

Some I have to make from scratch because there are not many to choose from, and I was sick of seeing toyota rc trucks everywhere on my RC forums.

Here goes.. This is a Tamiya Clod Buster body that I picked up from ebay. Everyone argues about its scale size (10th or 12th scale) and what year it is, I usually just say its an 80's model or its an 85.



I know some of you know this already but I will try to fill in the info for the others that may not know.

Anyway, this is a clod buster.. it was mine in 1991..

Borrowed the topper from the other blazer for a test fit..



I ended up taking another 1\4 inch from the bed, and cemented it all together



Before I go on, I use this stuff for all my putty needs, its hard as rock and yet is flexible, and doesn't shrink as much as the others I've used.



and this is what I use to cement or weld the plastic styrene and ABS with,



A shot of both of my Blazers...The red an white one on the left is now the Black one in my other thread.



The problem with these toy bodies is all the sun roofs and Blower holes in the hoods have to filled up..

Making the topper, I try to reuse what I cut off these truck bodies.









I'm going to stop here and get some coffee and make sure everyone is ok with this, and do you want me to continue ??

Had my coffee and fixed a printer.

I ordered these fender flairs from Spain last year sometime, and now I guess I will use them on this one.



It was time to add some primer, so I can see where my problems are with the body. I still have a few things to do to it, that will help it look like a 75.










To make my chassis, I use Map gas to bend 1\2 inch square iron tube from Menards, and then use my dye grinder and 3 inch cutting wheel to saw it in half.



I then stole the axles from my RC LUV. They are called K-44's



Got the WB lined out







I had to order some "U" bolts



I had to make my own grill for this one, since the original is an 80's style. Its not perfect, but once I start taking it out for the torture tests, it don't matter too much..







These came out last year, and I just had to have them, some good ole Super Swampers






And thats where I am at on this build. I hope you guys like..

I'm hoping if I mess up on the body, you will give me pointers to make it more 75 looking, as I go along..

Most of the time I don't build an interior in these little trucks, its kind of a pain, you really have to move things around to make them work. The only problem here is, it has a removable top.

I don't go overboard on the details, because once they are together, and being driven, you really can't see the interior in a picture or video.

You are about to view "ugly", but someday, it will look a little better, or untill I roll it down a hill.

Made some basic front seats





Took some black foam





Now to find something to cover them with, someday.



Dashboard, will be close, but not exact.



I took a clear, fake bulb and a piece of round plastic tube, and whittled the bulb down a little bit, and made guages. (I just can't drill)








The chassis as it sits now, waiting on shock towers. I made them, just haven't finished them yet.

The drive lines are just a little steep, but its ok, it works fine, it may wear out sooner, but again, its a toy, expensive, but still a toy..



Although, I may break down and make some wedges to clock the axles a little.




As for the exterior, I'm trying to 75 the fender, and using a reproduction tailgate, and I'm leaving the Chevy badge.



Those are the shock towers next to the tailgate.

Thanks guys.

I got a little done the other day, mostly messin with the interior. Put in carpet, covered the seats, made a center console,









Deciced to open up the grill. I hope to finish that tonight.

I skipped ahead to the painting, and I'm not the most patient person, so its not the best paint job, but it works for what I do with them.

I do need to narrow up the white behind the rear fenders.

That is just plain AWESOME! I don't know if your aware, but there is a die-cast company called So-Real Concepts. They make a 1/24 model of the blazer and a few others. Find some on e-bay as well. Great work!

Actually, I have checked that one out, I believe they have pickup's also. They are really nice.

Its a little rough lookin, but the interior is coming along, I even had to put an ashtray in it.





I found a Chevy emblem for it.



OK, so its a little big, I do have these to take its place.

Now I just need to rework the K5 emblem on the right so that they both match the one on the left.. (I think)

Well, like everything else I do in life, I tend to do it bass ackwards.

In my haste to get done, I forgot about the headlights, or where they resisde.

It just is not right, not even close in my book.



So..



The interior looks a little better. (matter of opinion, I guess )





And I got the flairs and front hubs on, now to find something for the rear wheels.

Basically its done, I have the K5 emblems, and I guess it needs a rollbar.

Anyway, its driveable.
