1970 Stepside Cab Mounts
Hello all, new to this forum and hoping it will provide information supporting my latest build. (1970 chevy c10 stepside)
This is my question. The rubber cab mounts were non existent when I purchased this truck. I completed all the frame and body work and am now wanting to install the newly purchased mounts. However when I installed there seems to be no room for the ones at the radiator core support. I've tried different configurations but nothing seems to work. I have searched this forum and have not found any results so I'm hoping that if I start another thread with this subject that someone can help. My truck is almost completed at this time so I hate to go and buy the assembly manual and LMC simply shows a picture. Hopefully someone can help with explaining a procedure. I'll post a few pics of my truck build shortly. Thanks in advance, specks70 |

Is the frame original to the truck? Are you using the original front clip or has it been changed to a '67-'68 front end? The reason I ask is that there is a big difference between the '67-'68 core support bushings and the '69-'72 core support bushings. LockDoc

Thanks LockDoc,
Yes, frame and front end is original to the truck. At this time the core support actually is resting on the frame not allowing any size of bushing to fit between the support and frame. |

Do they look like this:

Re: 1970 Stepside Cab Mounts
Thanks again LockDock and 67ChevyRedneck,
This can't be that hard I'm just not thinking about this properly. The easiest things can be the hardest to figure out. After work this evening I'm going to remove the cab mount bolts, raise the cab and install the two front bushings. Then take measurements for possible spacers to the middle bushings. Or maybe the middle bushing should go to the rear and vise versa. Here's a pic of my 70 at this time. |

I think that would be the best approach. This thread has pictures of the mounts. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=453781 The door to fender spacing looks good in the picture. Your new cab mount kit should have came with some extra big square or round spacers that you can use for shims. I would not remove the bolts, just loosen them up as much as you can. If you have to use spacers on the front cab bolts do that after you get the core support bolts started. LockDoc

Re: 1970 Stepside Cab Mounts
Okay, I Feel like a total idiot, I installed the larger mounts in the front, the medium in the rear and the smallest ones under the core support. The cab sits level and obviously now have mounts under the core support. Did have to add roughly a 1/8" shim to the top of the drivers side rear mount but that was it, I am sorry to have had to ask for support with this problem. It was actually quite simple to figure out.
But hey, I enjoyed posting to the forum and will continue to post pics of my progress on this build. |

Glad you got it figured out. Don't ever feel bad about posting questions. If no one posted any questions us people with no life would just have to sit here and stare at the monitor... LockDoc
