New guy here 58 Apache in UK

Hi

I am new on here.
I have a 58 Apache which was sold for scrap after sitting in a field in South Carolina for 34 years. It is now here in England

I was very rusty with some parts missing, I managed to get the 6 inline running before I removed it.

I have replaced the front floor pans, steps/rocker panels and both inner and outer rear cab corners which were badly rusted. The doors were also beyond repair but I have managed to find a battered but rot free pair.

Also I have 350 sb and auto box ready to fit, I have a Camaro front clip I want to fit, I know there is plenty of info on here on how to graft the clip on but any further help would be good, I am not sure about measurements. And I do not want the truck sitting low just a slight rake. I have ordered the No Limit DVD which should help. Also I need some advice on what rear axle to use and how to fit.

Once again any advice would be welcome .

Davey

Welcome to the site. Since I went the opposite way, not much help. While waiting for responses you might want to look thru the build threads and fine ones that have the look you want and see how they got there. Lots of ways to skin the cat depending on your skill level, etc.

Also we REALLY like pictures....

A guy in Wales shipped four trucks over from states and then decided it was to much work and a year later sold them off on ebay. I do know the truck was sold to him for $400 and it cost him £2000 to get it shipped to the UK.

I paid £2350 for my truck which was a good price over here, these trucks are very popular in England.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes it does look good in the photos, but I have had replace a lot of panels.
I want to keep the rusty battered up look on the outside but I don't want it falling apart.

I will post some more photos as it is now.

nice start, 4 eyes are always good in my book.
shipping and finding parts must be pricey any where outside the usa

Re: New guy here 58 Apache in UK

Hi Chaps

Thanks for your comments they mean a lot to me.
It can work out expensive getting parts shipped if it has to come via UPS.
But I have a contact in Florida who ships a container every couple of months so stuff that is not urgent works out ok.

I have added some more photos as the truck is now, I have found a Camaro rear axle and will use the flip kit from No Limit to install it. I have also ordered the No Limit DVD for front clip install which I hope helps.

I am looking for a complete Deluxe heater unit and controls if anyone can help and I would need it shipped to Florida.

Re: New guy here 58 Apache in UK

Hey Davey - I'm always rooting for the home (as in UK but also back yard) builds.
I'll be following this one.

Do you reckon your Florida contact would have space in one of his future container shipments? There's going to be stuff I need for my project sooner or later...

Good luck with your truck!
Mack

Davey, what is the market like there for Apaches? Values?

Are there any import restrictions regarding modified versus stock?

Thanks
Wayne

Hi Wayne

All 50s trucks are in big demand, Truck prices start around £5000 for a solid truck straight off a farm running or not condition up to £30,000 for show truck.
There are no restrictions on what you import but for a stock truck you only have to pay 5% VAT rather than 20%. But there are plenty of trucks coming through that have been modified that are only paying 5%.

People tend to go for the rat look but with performance running gear.

Re: New guy here 58 Apache in UK

Thanks or the information. I'm tucking that away as I decide how far to take my modification. I'd hate to narrow my market down to far when I tire of it some years from now

Re: New guy here 58 Apache in UK

Hi All

I have checked out all of your photos of your trucks. They are all great you guys are so lucky, We have some good American cars shows here in the summer which are great to see what people are driving and what they have done to their motors. But I have been to a few shows in Florida and you guys are in a different world.
I love it over there you can buy almost anything you want for your trucks & cars. Last trip I did I spent half my time in Auto parts shops and the other half in Pro-bass Outdoor world. Or trying has many diners as possible.

I am looking to do another trip later this year just trying to decide on where to visit this time.

It's good talking to you guys.
