Re: 49 chevy restoration with a twist

cant get a perfect measurement but my dad said its 3/4 narrower then the stock frame. Then again the stock frame we had had a different front end. Works great though!

Re: 49 chevy restoration with a twist

I just looked it up on google, it says the 96 Caprise has a 115.9" wheel base and i know the stock 1/2 ton short box trucks wheel base is 116" . You cant get any better than that!! Im using a s10 long box frame and its 117.9" Cant wait to see more!!

Re: 49 chevy restoration with a twist

great frame swap! helped with a couple of old GM G-body swaps on AD trucks and they narrowed the frames the same way and it worked really slick. the solution to the box was a cover as the trucks weren't going to haul a load. Track width in front looks way better than S-10 and if you purchase aftermarket bumpers check the warranty they come with.

Re: 49 chevy restoration with a twist

Sorry its been awhile since i updated the project on here. We haven't done too much. We have finished up the cab mounts, bed mounts, bumper mounts, and some other stuff. Recently we sent in our motor in to get rebuilt. It had a spun rod bearing and had cracks in the cylinder heads. While that was being done we spent some time sand blasting and painting the frame.

The boom truck helped alot with painting the frame!
Next is body work!! Ill try to keep updating

Re: 49 chevy restoration with a twist

Howdy Fellas! Sorry for no updates. Recently we have just been trying to get some cash to Finish the actual frame and get it running. Just need to figure out the wiring harness and i think we are set to fire it off. No body work Done... But i gotta say. The frame looks damn nice!

Wow this is a cool build, would have never guessed to do that. Your monster cherry picker would come in handy to pick up the panel body for my truck. Keep up the great work on this thing.
