Need help picking a set of headers.

I have a 1969 chevy short box step side. 350 with a three speed transmission. I'm at the point where I need to start looking at what style. I've never ran headers before, and am wondering about quality and clearance. Any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Sanderson CC11. They come in black paint or ceramic coated. Great fit.

How are you running your exhaust, I'm thinking I want mine to turn right after the headers and swing out side the frame and dump in front of the rear tires. I think the biggest challenge I would have is running under the frame, but I'm not running bags just lowered a little so I think it's possible.

Then try Sanderson block hugger long tube headers! They will stay between the upper and lower flanges of your frame. Then you won't have the routing nightmare you are building for yourself by going outside the frame.

I have headman long tube headers. They were pretty easy to install considering I had access to a post lift.I bought the cheapest ones I could find- jegs. I think they cost $85. But they were just painted black. I burned that paint off now they are rusted pretty bad. I would highly recommend ceramic coated. Also the gaskets they sent me were paper and folded in half. They leaked pretty soon after I put them on. So I replaced with multilayer aluminum crush gaskets, leak is long gone. I think the gaskets were $30.

I've had this same question for some time now. Right now I have a set of shorty headers from Summitt, meant for a 90s Camaro. I bought them because an article in a mag said they fit the frame and don't hang. Problem that I found later was the article was done on a truck with a V8 swap into a 6 cyl frame (Motor mount locations different). I had to heat and bend them to fit but thought I was good. Problem. The right side collector sits on the starter solenoid and the heat soak causes the starter to malfunction when ever it's hot (I've posted on this before). Do these Sanderson headers fit that well? If they do, I'm in. I was going to go back to stock, but the price is about the same for manifolds.

We install hedman full length headers last night on my truck. They sound good and fit well on the passenger side but are horrible on the drivers side. We are have to relocate the z-bar for the clutch to get to work.

Sorry I don't have a pic of the drivers side mounted in the truck but there is no interference with the frame. Here's a pic of the drivers side.

Take a look at Patriot Clipster Headers. I had a set of mid-lengths in ceramic. They fit well and cleared everything. My truck had a 4.5/6 static drop. I used these headers and ran the exhaust tucked up along the inside of frame. You can find them at Summit for around $370.

Here are photo's of the engine bay in my truck. The Sanderson long tube headers fit perfectly.

Curious why you are adding headers? On a stock engine they are nothing but a pain. On a mild engine you can run '64 Corvette 2 1/2" Ramshorns and have plenty of flow and not have to mess with headers. If you have a blown big block, you probably need them though. My point is don't just buy headers because everybody has them.

I gave up on the benefits of headers in a stock to mild engine in a truck years ago, the troubles one has to deal with on headers to me are just not worth it to me anymore.

If I was running a 572, sure I would.
If I was running a mild cam to stock small or big block, manifolds all the way.

If you are sold on getting headers, then in my limited experience is that you get what you pay for.

Thick flanges, durable coatings, proper fitment, and specific to your vehicle are the things one needs to keep in mind.

I'll second that. But running headers on a stock engine always got better mileage for me. But then, I drive like grandma or so I'm told. It's not so bad. I always get where I'm going and most of the work is done by the time I roll in.

Running a 700r4 automatic.
