Anyone modify a 60's impala horn?

I have a 60's steering wheel that I plan to put on my 71. I love the wheel but I'm not a big fan of the bottom round ring part of the horn. I'm thinking about keeping the center horn button but trim the bottom ring off. Before I trim the ring part off, I was wondering if anyone has ever done this? A picture would be great.

Once I trim off the bottom part I'm planning on painting the horn button the same color as my truck.
