Well I agree not factory. Almost looks like it was cut with a small torch. I have seen some muffler guys cut with a welding tip. Heat shut off acetylene... heat and repeat.....

might be wrong but it looks like an oxy/acetylene torch cut to me, but maybe there was a metal eating beaver chewing on that thing.
